Guest guest
i don't typically think of us as " recovered " but something that i hang on to happened this school year and made me realize how far we've come. my daughter just started middle school (6th grade), and she has a teacher who was her resource teacher in 3rd grade before moving to middle school to teach. when i saw her for back to school night, she grabbed me and hugged me and told me our girl was indistinguishable from her peers. we have definitely come a long way and i forget this big picture when i am living in my day-to-day little picture. we began gfcf a week before she started kindergarten and started with dr. g in april of kindergarten. we continued for a while with our dan dr and dr. g but realized we needed to commit to one and went with dr. g. our girl is still on meds, i'm ok with this, and i will be ok with it forever if need be. i love to watch her grow, learn, text and " hang out " with her friends and i don't want to rock any boats. she is still my baby but i'm trying to let her wings grow. it's hard not to be overprotective. we did private o.t. in preschool and early elementary and her handwriting is fantastic because of this. we did private speech which focused on michelle garcia winner's social thinking www.*social*thinking.com/ but haven't done this in many years. basically, her days are filled with school, homework and her extra activities that include dance, swim, singing and acting in plays. she is always doing some combo of these. i think these things have been instrumental in her progress since all her activities are typical and if she doesn't toe the line, she has consequences. although her academics are awesome, her social is slower. she has friends and makes them pretty easily. the thing that sets her apart is that she seems younger than many of her peers. where her friends " love " their boyfriends, she is not at this stage. She is more similar to kids a year or two younger as far as her interests and play. she would rather play with barbies than talk about boys, make up and hair. i don't know if any of this is helpful but i just wanted you to know that sometimes, our kids are further along than we realize. a happy, healthy year to all of you and your darling children. Guest guest
, Thank you for sharing! It's so encouraging to hear good news! I'm so happy your daughter is doing so well!!!!! I know that it was a hard and long road to get to this point, but all the hard work pays off! To any parent whose child is not at this point, hand in there, remember that every child is different and any progress is welcome news! Keep up the good work!!!!! Happy New Year!
