Guest guest
The PANDAS expert is Dr. Sue Swedo at the NIH. She is having great success with Zithromax. Check out this link: http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/research/pdn/web.htm [ ] PANDAS Hi everyone, My son has what looks like PANDAS, among other things. Has anyone ever had a child with this, and if so, is this treatable? And if so, what treatment did you use? My DAN! has suggested transfer factor #5. Any help any of you wise people can give me would truly be appreciated. Jen =======================================================

The first episode came 6 weeks after a severe cox sackie viral infection (foot and mouth disease) there is a known PANDAS type reation to viral infections as well as strep. It was a one day not there the next day wham kind of onset. He refused to touch anything, would use his elbows...could not walk through a door w/o wiping at it etc, could not stand dirt or spills. He was tried on paxil but got extremely hyper so had to stop. He had probable tic-like tongue movements with this. most symptoms faded on their own after 6-8 weeks. Everytime he gets sick some symptoms will flare, almost a year from the first episode he had another but with different symptoms, this time he pulled out his eyelashes, eyebrows and hair. Along with the OCD he is way less able to transition, more aggressive and decreased fine mottor ability. This last exacerbation was not as intense but has lasted longer, the symptoms started fading around the time I started monolaurin, but maybe it was also fading with time alone. What can you tell me about transfer factor, what is #5, what company makes it ?
Guest guest
I wouldn't do the antibiotics because that would mess up the balance in the gut. There are natural products to take for viral issues and also for the yeast. PANDAS Ok, doing some wonderful reading. Bock's book, " Healing the New Childhood epidemics " . A must read guys, love it so far. Ok, any one treat PANDAS? I'm going to dive into the research. We get the melt downs, sensitive, and have the ADHD PDD-NOS thing going. His body is still " up " there! Thinking back years ago. My nt son had strep/pneumonia at like 5-6 months. It was over the weekend, urgent care. They wanted me to follow up with my family doctor on Monday to see how he was doing. My family doctor said no way he could have had strep, I must have heard wrong. I remember hearing something like kids under 2 don't get strep. Anyway, I didn't, and the doctors report was received, I was right he tested positive for strep. So it was, he must be a carrier! Whatever! So, fast forward a year or so later. My nt son again sick, he tested positive for strep. This is his second time, and last I might add. So they ask me if my older child has been sick. No, but they wanted to test him too. I was shocked when he tested positive. So he got a shot in the rear and they thought maybe he was a carrier. So, we've never had strep again in our house since but.. My assumption is they do a strep test to see if positive, both a quick and a long one, right? How long is the antibiotic treatment! We've been working so hard on the yeast, biocidin now for almost a month I think, customer probiotics. So if we did do antibiotics, it would really stir things up but might be worth it. I could also do the antibiotics for the clostridia too in his system, we've been doing biomedical! Anyone, please, do the testing? What was treatment? What ya think? Thanks Tammy Still searching for answers!!!!! !
Guest guest
If your child has strep, NOT taking antibiotics has some serious consequences, kidney and heart disease, namely. Not a problem with trying natural methods, first, but make certain and get them retested to make sure the strep is gone. Lots of kids out there with bad/weak hearts which shorten their lifespan due to untreated strep. It's nothing to mess around with. Fwiw, ours had to take an antibiotic for strep and she got BETTER on it. PANDAS Ok, doing some wonderful reading. Bock's book, " Healing the New Childhood epidemics " . Guest guest
He's not sick, never was " sick " when he tested positive, like 3-4 years ago. I'm assuming he got a shot on penicillin in the rear. Do you remember what kind of antibiotic she had, like amoxilcian, and did fine, the normal like 10 days like course? I was reading, only one site, too tired late last night. Said there was no test for PANDAS so taking him in for a strep test may be a waste of time or money. Just look into it I guess. Guest guest
There is a blood test to see if the ASO and DNAse B AB titers are elevated. If so, then combined with the behavioral issues, the doc can diagnose PANDAS. We just started prophylactic antibiotics for it. 250 mg of Zithromax each week (one boy gets a pill the other gets liquid) and 600,000 units of bicillin per month by injection. There is a biofilm protocol; I'm not sure if it can be combined or not, or what the effect of that is. I'd like to know, because, I'd like to try that if it would speed up the action of the antibiotics. Anyone know? Guest guest
Tammy, No, no test for PANDAS, but thinking you want ASO strep titers run. We did run those and her's were negative. There are a number of antibiotics which are " safer " for our kids, Zithromax and Cefzil are two of the ones condsidered safer. However, as said, you do have to be careful as any antibiotic will eat up good bacteria along with the bad. I did just read that Barberines (golden seal, oregon grape and barberry) were equal to antibiotics in treating strep although I have to say we used those with no luck. I have used Golden Seal on myself and it knocked several colds out, flat, but for her, they did not work. What we did was really increase her probiotics during the antibiotic we which was Zithromax, very short course, 5 days, one dose a day. We have also used Amoxicillion with good results. But If I were you, I'd want to know if he tested positive for ASO strep titers. Good luck, PANDAS Ok, doing some wonderful reading. Bock's book, " Healing the New Childhood epidemics " . Guest guest
Hi Amy, The biofilm protocol contains EDTA, which some feel is not a good idea for anyone who has mercury, fwiw. I did read after just one case where the child got worse with the Biofilm protocol. Have not read that it helped anyone, not saying it didn't, just saying I haven't read it. Guest guest
Neuroimmune Science labs has a test called the PANDAS profile that tests 12 markets that indicate you have PANDAS. We ran it on my son who fit the symptoms profile to a t and all 12 markers were abnormal, very abnormal. Guest guest
For my daughter the ant-Dnase was high when ASO were always in nl range. You are fortunate that someone actually takes interest and wants to treat this!! We haven't had such luck. Like , the naturals did not seem to help much. We're planning to begin the biofilm protocol when the agents arrive. fwiw, I also have a grandson, 8y, recovered from a toddler mess of toxic lead and mercury. About 3-4x/yr he gets very OCD. It always responds to treatment for strep!! The rapid strep is neg and the culture is positive if they let it sit long enough. All it takes anymore for him to get treated is a phone call to the doc. > > Tammy, > > No, no test for PANDAS, but thinking you want ASO strep titers run. !
Guest guest
thanks PANDAS Ok, doing some wonderful reading. Guest guest
We don't do antibiotics at all with my daugther. Although she has PANDAS induced tourettes ... she is otherwise NT. She is on a strict rotation diet just like her twin brother. She takes many of the same supplements as he does. She is on tons of vitamin c and tons of probiotics as well as the MB12 shots and several other supplementation. The reason is when we ran he testing for allergy / intollerances and when we ran he testing like the OATS ... much of her test came out looking like her twin brother's looked. A year ago her tourettes was bad ... and caused her a whole lot of misery and frustration. Now she is well on her way to a full recovery. The only time she ever really has bad tics anymore is during her period ... when her hormones are all out of wack. We are working on stabilizing them more ... so that they don't take such a huge dip and cause her to crash and burn if you know what I mean. Our DAN said that antibiotics don't really help since the virus is gone ... It is the antibodies that the body made that seems to be the problem... Guest guest
My daughter has PANDAS ... and she is now all but recovered. She has a minor minor head shake (tic) left ... but her PANDAS markers have come down significantly. Yeast treatment can cause bacterial overgrowth... this causes Aggression in many children ... DOES he take OLE or something similar for bacterial issues. High doses of vitamin C help with eliminating the strep issues of PANDAS as well as OLE, Lyseine. My child also needed to be on a gluten free casein free corn free and soy free diet. She also has several other food allergies that we address. My child also has to have allergy shots. Her PANDAS is stirred up by environmental issues as well... 5HTP helps her sleep... doesn't need it much anymore ... we have gotten rid of the viral thing ... Virastop helps eliminate viruses and so does baking soda. I give 1/4t. of non-aluminum baking soda to her if her tics get out of control ... always gets it right back under control ... Epsom salt baths help ... especially along with some baking soda. The baking soda helps to slightly alter their body pH ... so that virus can't easily survive. I don't do the baking soda thing every day ... just when things are bad. Her bad days now look much better than her good days use to look.... that is how much healing she has had. We have never done IVIG ... have you considered LDN? It is an immune modulater and CHEAP ... It is prescription. She lacks folinic acid and MB12 also ... so she gets these things.... She has improved and improved to the point she no longer stands out as different at all. All just some thoughts of things I didn't see you already trying. Melinda > > My daughter was told that her son, 8 year old, has the marker for PANDAS. His antiDNAse-B titer was 608. > He is very hyper, very stimming, very mouthy, has several food and seasonal allergies, severe allergy to peanut, has problem with focusing and learning in school, it was also determined that he has Tactile Kinesthetic issues. He doesn't sleep much. He talks non stop, same questions over and over and over. He has just recovered from Pyroulia. His good bacteria is low. We stopped enzymes one month ago because he had become very aggressive and defiant. He also, just recovered from yeast overgrowth, which right now is okay. The DAN doctor would like him to undergo the IVIG, but since it is quite expensive she will send them some antibiotic and other herbal supplements made by her compound pharmacy. Anyway, does anyone have any idea how best to treat this. He was first diagnosed as ADHD, then PDD-NOS..... He takes magnesium, zinc, vitamin B6 (I believe), just stopped GABA, it did not work for him, will start INOSITOL. I bought the miracle belt, I saw > publicized on the news, but so far it does not do anything for him. > > Thank you for reading me. This was viral at my house, and OLE did eliminate that [along with vitamin C and lysine]. Dana He is taking Vitamin C but no lysine, how much lysine would he need to help him? Any brand? His doctor has prescribed IG2000 in capsules which is a substitute for IVIG, and NDF plus clorella in drops. He is now taking Melatonim as needed for sleep issues, and Inositol to calm him, plus a mixture or herbs from her compound pharmacy. Thank you again for your input. If we were to add OLE and lysine would those interfere with what has been prescribed by the doctor? My grandson weights close to 50 pounds. I started with 250mg per day and worked up from there. I started with 250mg. Be sure to keep it at least 2 hours apart from the OLE. >>NDF plus clorella in drops. Start very slowly. Some kids do very badly with this. >>If we were to add OLE and lysine would those interfere with what has been prescribed by the doctor? Not so far as I can tell. The combination has the potential for causing a lot of yeast overgrowth tho. Dana

I wouldn't count on this as a substitute for IVIG. My son has been taking this for about 8 months for gut issues. This was prior to his strep infection that triggered his PANDAS. He takes 1/2 tsp 3x a day. His PANDAS profile and his strep titers have gotten worse and his PANDAS symptoms have worsened. We are starting IVIG at the end of this month and I sure hope the IVs have some effect on my son because the Xymogen IG2000 has done nothing for it.
