Guest guest
Thanks for all that info Robin! I am calling our DAN! doc Rossignol Monday and asking about what I could do as this will be about 5.5 hour trip for us, so should be interesting. I’m sure they’ll have ideas too on what to calm him. I keep thinking I am absolutely crazy for taking him across the country. I hope this really works out! thx again, kathi From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Driver Sent: Saturday, January 01, 2011 12:57 PM Subject: From LAX to Dr. G hotel question Hi there, So from LAX to Dr. G is 33 min as per mapquest. You COULD stay near LAX but I have found driving the 405 to get to him is a nightmare. Homewood suites by Hilton in Agoura hills is 15 min further north, so you'll drive 15 more min, BUT I love not battling the 405 the next day to get to him. Its a smooth 15 min ride on the 101 from hotel to office. Hotel address is 28901 Canwood st. Agoura Hills 91301 check websites like expedia and then check hotel directly for best rate. It can be cheaper either way. I'd love to hear how it goes! Please update! (If your child will have issue w/ the trip can you ask a doctor or or even a D.O to rx your son a tranquilizer? It prob won't even knock him out, just take it down some. You would just need 2 doses, one to get here and one to get back. ) My son is fine w/ trip but not with blood draws. We use valium and it doesn't even knock him out! It just takes it down a bit. Verset (not sure of spelling) worked wonderful to calm my son pre ear tube surgey. Nurses say it gives an amnesia effect, as the person does not remember the stressful moment. I am actually going to ask for that one next blood draw, as valium is not really working so well. Anyway, my 2 cents:) Take care! Robin Driver Sent via MOTOBLUR™ on Verizon Wireless HELP for hotels, please Can someone recommend a hotel to stay at in California? The office doesn’t give a list and we are from the east coast. Any recommendation?? Thanks Kathi
Guest guest
Hey Kathi, Your not crazy, but wonderful to do this for your son! I hope it goes well for you. Rossignal is super cool, and seems like he would understand the sedative need. Worse case, you can always ask for a sedative from Goldberg, for your trip back. Feel free to contact me directly if you have future trip questions. Going there 12 times a year, I feel we have earned a navigation badge, lol! Before your trip out it would be good to send a list of specific questions / concerns as the time will slip by. Many times, I am driving away pissed that I forgot something, lol! He responds well to an email agenda of areas of concern. Best wishes! Robin Driver San Diego Boomba76@... Guest guest
Kathy, I saved a past post (very old) by Cheryl that talked about how to get free air fare for medical reasons. Don't know if these programs still exist but it is worth a try. I have also heard of Angel Wings http://www.angelflight.org/. Also look up Carforce on the internet for help. Here is what Cheryl said: Posted by: " Cheryl Lowrance " <mailto:c.lowrance@...?Subject=%20Re%3Awonderwegian> c.lowrance@... <midian42> midian42 Tue Aug 7, 2007 9:39 pm (PST) As promised, here's the plane tickets info: Free Airline tickets from Continental Airline to visit doctor out of state. If you are taking your child to see a doctor out of state, you can order free airplane tickets from Continental Airline. They will fly the child and one parent free. The program is called Careforce. You will call Melia at 281-360-5314. All she needs is a note from a doctor stating that you have an appointment on certain date. Her fax number is 281-361-7114. You can use this program once a year. ***NOTE*** This was posted in 2007. If you are viewing this later, the name of the contact may not be the same but the program should still be called CAREFORCE so you should still be able to speak with someone. Southwest also has a program, I haven't looked up the details but you can find it out by calling them. <http://www.miracleflights.org/> http://www.miracleflights.org/ They work with all these other airline programs and if they can't get tickets through one of the programs, they buy them for you. Also, they will fly both parents along with the patient. Best, Marcia

Guest guest
We looked into this 2 years ago, several organizations, when we had to fly from NY to CA to see an immunologist. They are free, but the bad thing is, they get you the cheapest flights. That can mean if it is cheaper for them to get you on 2, 3 or 4 connecting flights than it is to fly you direct, they do that. The one " flight " to CA one organization offered us had 3 lay overs and would have taken a total of 13 hours to get for NY to CA. My son would have lost his mind. We ended up getting a great deal through Jet Blue and figured whatever we paid was worth getting there in 6 hours and being done with it! Good luck Kerrie In a message dated 1/2/2011 4:42:00 P.M. Guest guest
Fyi all, this angel network is only for 13 western states. It's great, but just so you know, it's not for east coast folks. kathi From: and Marcia Hinds [mailto:hindssite@...] Sent: Sunday, January 02, 2011 8:32 AM kathi0908@...; Subject: Re: From LAX to Dr. G hotel question Kathy, I saved a past post (very old) by Cheryl that talked about how to get free air fare for medical reasons.
