Guest guest
I didnt experience numbness on the Lexapro. Only on paxil I felt that way. However I am on a much lower dosage because I want to at least be able to feel something. Guest guest
For most people it does pass. These are called weaning on sides. There may be other sides you'll experience for a few weeks and there may not. It's very different for each person on each kind of drug. It may be that 10mg is too a high a dose for you to start at. Talk to your doc about cutting back to 5 mg for about a week and then going back up to the 10. Guest guest
I had that with Celexa. It lasted the entire time I was on it (14 months). If I recall correctly, I was taking 40 mg a day. Perhaps if my doctor had been aware of my issues with Celexa he would have either lowered the dose or switched me to a different drug. *I* didn't know what was normal sides and what was extreme. So I had no idea I should talk to the doctor. The brain fog didn't help that reasoning process either. It wasn't until being off the Celexa for about a year and then being put on Effexor that I really saw and understood the differences. Ya live and ya learn. ;-) Barbara Re: Lexapro I've been on 10 mg for about six months and I never had any side effects except for a tiny bit of nausea and dizziness the first couple of days. Guest guest
LOL! Right now, it is just about all I can do to eat 500 calories a day. Absolutely NO appetite. I told the doctor to DOUBLE THAT DOSE! For whatever reason, it is going to be my help to get the weight off. Right now, all that looks good is water and Crystal Light Slurpee (no calories). I have been able to eat a bowl of lettuce/salad and cheese and crachers. Oh, and scrambled eggs are good too. I have had no sugar for many many weeks, and no sodas and no fats outside what I put on my salad....basalmic and vinegar. I am glad that it is working! I will take anything...especially since my GI does NOT want me to have bypass....but heck, right now, I don't need it! I am proud of doing it without. I have many friends who have had it and have been quite successful....but for some reason I just have not gotten it done. I am really glad now. I know you will do it ! Guest guest
Hi, I am sure the doctor is right in not recommending the bypass, as it is a risk even for healthy people. People who've had a bypass have problems with absorption of many nutrients, for example. I have a friend who had one recently, and I'm pretty sure she regrets it now. She did lose some weight but has all sorts of problems now, has to take B-vitamin shots, has recently had some heart problems which may have something to do with the fact that calcium, and some other stuff I've forgotten, is not absorbed properly, and so on. Please make sure you don't lose more than 1 kg (a couple of pounds) per week. If you lose weight too fast, there is a risk the liver starts developing fatty tissue which can result in fatty liver - not good. It sounds illogical, but the doctors assure me that's how it goes. I am currently on a 800-900 calories per day diet also. I don't have much of an appetite either, and that amount seems to be quite enough for me. I am very overweight and the prednisone etc. just made it worse. The problem is I don't lose anything on a normal 1200-1500 calorie diet, and the doctors didn't give me permission to go below that due to the risks for the liver. I don't have the usual problems connected to being overweight, such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and so on, which probably affected their risk assessment (I imagine if I'd had lots of weight related problems they might have given the permission more easily). Now I've been stable and all my liver values are normal, in fact better than your average normal, so they said I can try if I want to. Still, I was warned not to lose more than the one kilo per week (not that there was much of a risk that I would anyway, even on this diet). The liver needs nutrients, so try to eat a varied diet even if you eat just a little. And good luck with the weight loss - it does feel good, doesn't it! :-) Jaana 11.9.2007 5:17, Cryingheart kirjoitti: > > > LOL! Guest guest
Your comments are very interesting. I don't understand why the liver would develop into fatty liver. It was my understanding, that by losing weight, the fat would leave the liver.....now I will have to talk with my GI about this when I see her next time. The biggest reason my GI did not want me to have a bypass was that she said that should I ever have some problem like a bleed, they would have to undo the bypass in order to get to the problem...or something like that. So, I have just chosen to not do it. Several years ago, I saw a doctor for the bypass. I was to come back in a month or so, because I had to prove that I could lose some weight by myself and learn the dynamics of eating less. Well, I lost 25 pounds at that time, and decided why did I need a bypass when I could do it myself? It was a revelation to me. Since then, I had the " prednisone treatment " which put back 50 pounds that I had lost earlier....I was crushed, but now, I know I can do it! Sometimes, it seems, that diets that count calories are just a waste of time. For me, counting calories makes me MORE hungry and then I start to obsess on food.....not a good idea for me. Now, even though I " sort of " keep track of the calories, eating the food my body craves, seems to be working now. As for weight loss, it appears that I am losing approx 1/4 - 1/2 pound a day. There are times when I won't lose any for about a week or so, and that tells me that my body is doing an adjustment to the loss....which is what is supposed to happen. Good luck. That prednisone is a nasty medication! Truly, as many have said, it is a love/hate medication.....it is not a drug that I EVER want to take again!! Guest guest
That's what I would have thought, too, but several hepatologists have told me that losing weight *too fast* may have the opposite effect. I found some articles where this is mentioned, for example: http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/cladiet.htm http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdlv37.htm http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/560282_6 Do tell what your doctor says about this as well. Guest guest
For me Lexapro had some weird side effects and I wouldn't use it for weight loss, if your going to go the non-traditional route and use drugs then take something for weight loss because it's not worth the side effects of an anti-depressant. Plus if your not actually depressed you shouldn't take a drug for that, it would be hard to get a perscription anyway.
Guest guest
A word of caution......I googled " Lexapro " and found a site on which a great number of people were complaining about GAINING weight on Lexapro. Here is the link: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/WeightLoss/messages/573.html Like everyone else, I'm interested in losing the Prednisone weight, but it sounds like Lexapro could make the problem even worse. Depression is another side effect of Prednisone so I'm fairly certain I could get a prescription for an anti-depressant from my doctor. But most anti-depressants do cause weight gain. Sharon p.s. Debbie, I'm happy for you that you are losing weight and hope you have continued success.
Guest guest
It appears that I am one of the lucky ones that I have not (for ONCE) been affected with weight gain. For this I am grateful! Most of us have dealt with the prednisone weight, and it is time to shed it for me. I am thrilled the weight is coming off. Part of the situation for the weight loss, is that I had a knee replacement the latter part of June and that is helping me to lose the weight. 2 years ago, I had back surgery and lost part of the weight after the surgery, and have not put it back on, so for that, I am grateful. Indeed, depression is a problem with AIH and this medication is kicking in with a bonus side effect for me!!! Guest guest
AIH sufferers you want to try the following drug which has had great great success and is not available in the US of course because the drug manufacturer is international. Guest guest
I actually received a confirmation of sorts to this weight loss and fatty liver issue today. The doctor was calling about my latest labs and turned out my ALAT has gone up and is now slightly above the normal limit. According to the doctor the most likely cause is the diet, even though I haven't lost weight particularly fast. He did give me permission to carry on with the diet for the time being anyway, but I'm not sure what to do. In any case, weight loss can indeed affect liver values, even if in the long run losing weight is usually good for the liver. Guest guest
Debbie, Was your knee replacement an issue with pred? I also need a knee replacement, but was told I have to wait. I am hoping to get my pred lowered from 10 down to 7.5 if I am stabilized. I don’t know how low I have to go to get the OK for my knee replacement. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Dell Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2007 10:36 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Lexapro AIH sufferers you want to try the following drug which has had great great success and is not available in the US of course because the drug manufacturer is international. It¹ called isoprinosine. Look up, try it. It¹s awesome, and that¹s all I have to say about that. Guest guest
, I have not been on prednisone for several years. I was on it for 19 months.....from October 99 - June 01....I think that was the time I finally went off.....so it has been some time for me. Regardles, I kept on the prednisone weight and hated it so much! As for the prednisone and knee replacement, I can't tell you.....but I would assume that it is because when you take prednisone, it often takes longer for your body to heal. Check with your doctor. Guest guest
We also have had problems with some anti depressants and anxiety medications. We are very cautious with these types of drugs with LDN. Remeron seems to be okay <firewifelopez@...> wrote: Hi all,Does anyone take Lexapro @ bedtime with the LDN?? I've tried the DLPA without much success, and I seem to get sleepy/dizzy if I take the Lexapro during the day. The pharmacist (@ CVS) said it was OK to take at bedtime, but I don't want it to interfere with the LDN. Thanks, Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
---, I take lexapro also. I take mine in the morning though. When I first started on lexapro it made me sick too. Have you tried taking it with a small amount of food like toast or crackers? That helped me alot!! Also you may be taking a higher dose than you need. You can cut the pills in half. I cut my 10 mg pills in half. To answer your question, it is ok to take lexapro with LDN. In low dose naltrexone , <firewifelopez@...> wrote: > > Hi all, > > Does anyone take Lexapro @ bedtime with the LDN??
