Guest guest
One Voice Will Be Heard When you were born my heart you stole With my every breath you filled my soul, From that day forward right from the start, The love you gave embraced my heart, As with all mothers, each day I grew My mind filled with thoughts of you, I'd daydream of the thing's we'd share Like late night bottles and teddy bears, Those first steps and skinned up knees Like bedtime stories and ABC's. I thought of things that you'd want to know Like why flowers smell, and why they grow, I thought of life's little lessons we could share, Like keeping your chin up, and playing fair. When I first saw your precious face; I prayed your life be touched with grace, Each Night I thanked the angels from above; And thanked god for your unending love, As I was ready to lay you down to sleep I said our prayers, and I kissed you cheek, I would count your fingers and toes; I memorized you eyes and your nose, I lingered at your nursery door, Awed each day how I'd love you more, Though your misty eyes, I dim the light Softly whispering, " I love you " each night, Then one day like a thief in the night You have stoled her soul and was out of sight, When she raised at dawn's early light, She couldn't talk, that day nothing was right, She crawled like a baby, even though she could walk, Then she would follow bricks, yet couldn't talk. At twenty- four months, man could you sing You could say every word, but they didn't mean a thing, This wasn't the same, not like before You use to say, " Mommy, I love you more. " You mimed the walls all through the night Sleeping four to six hours a night, Singing and rocking, as you wept, I cannot remember the last time you slept Where did you go, wherever it is I want to go Don't you know how much I miss you so, I miss the kisses, and big teddy bear hugs, The swimming pools, and even the bugs, At night when it is dark I cry for you, The things you will face, discrimination too, This thief's name is autism, and no one quite knows, How it takes you, how to treat it, and man it shows, No one has a cure, no medicine; no one has a clue, If we all would work together this is what it would do, The trumpets from the heavens began to roar, Soon after angels and the news began to soar, Though out the lands, by man, animals, yes even by bird, The message given was, " One Voice Will Be Heard! " The message One Voice, One Story, One Child at a Time Autism's Awakening the bells they did chime This news included; Parents, Teachers, Professionals and more; Working together hand in hand this news it did soar, From city to city and state to state, through out the lands, A new day is coming, get ready, and start up the bands, We are fighting the thief, yet the battle is not won Yet, think were we would be without the Power of One! Guest guest
Copied from a local list. I passed it on to some family members after a little " rough " family Christmas party, and and acknowledgement from one of my uncles (who observed someone be rude to my child and how my child responded to it and was affected by it - just snatched him up off the couch and stole his seat, banged his leg on the coffee table, then said he was trying to kick him - which he was not). Anyway, my uncle said your kids are so wierd but we love them anyway. Sweet, huh? He was also apologizing about the fact that the whole family believes that we just don't discipline them enough. It was a pleasant little chat and makes me wonder why I haven't moved to another state yet. Autism Christmas Poem Posted by: " zmaverickz " Zmaverickz@...  mrtumlin Sat Dec 18, 2010 8:08 am (PST) Autism Christmas Poem " Twas the Night Before Christmas ....And all through the house The creatures were stirring ....Yes, even the mouse We tried melatonin And gave a hot bath Asleep early for Christmas? ....an unlikely path The children were finally All nestled in bed When visions of Christmas Ran through my OWN head Did I get the right gift? The right color and style? Would there be a blank stare Or even, maybe, a smile? Friends & family come But they don't understand The pleasure she gets Just from bending her hands. " Just make her stop it, " some say " Just tell her " no " , " You must learn to be tough.. " On and on they go... We smile and nod Because we know deep inside The debate is moot Let them all take a side We know what it's like To live with the spectrum The struggles, triumphs achievements and regressions. But what some don't know And what some don't see Is the joy that we feel Over simplicity. She said " hello " ! She ate something green! She looked me in my eyes She did not cause a scene! She peed on the potty! Who cares if she's ten; She stopped saying the same thing Again and again! " Some others don't realize Just how we can cope How we bravely hang on At the end of our rope But what they don't see Is the joy we can't hide When our children with autism Make the tiniest stride We may look at others Without the problems we face With envy, with wonder, Or even distaste, What we want them to know What's important to see Is that children with autism Bring simplicity. We don't get excited Over expensive things We jump for joy With the progress work brings Children with autism Try so hard every day That they make us proud More than words can say. They work even harder Than you or I To achieve something small To reach a star in the sky So to those who don't get it Or can't get a clue Take a walk in our shoes And I'll assure you… That even 10 minutes Into the walk You'll look at us all With respect, even shock. You will realize What it is we go through And the next time you see us I can assure you That you won't say a thing You'll be quiet and learn, Like the years I learned to When the tables were turned. ~ Muczyk
Guest guest
, You are right, there isn't anyone except a parent who lives this that that understands just how hard it is to have a child with this thing we call autism. We had the same issues with . Don't you love how your well-meaning relatives can't wait to tell you all the reasons your child is out of control? They are convinced the problem is your parenting. You are not strict enough and don't set clear limits. We all know " good parenting " involves consistency but we know this is more than that. And dealing with your family is a whole other story, so I won't go there. But don't you just love how this is all your fault and you are spoiling your child? Like we don't have enough on our plates without their observations and HELP!!! Put their comments out of your head and realize it is their ignorance and total lack of compassion that makes them more awful than our kids. Now who has trouble with empathy? Just always just do what your kiddo needs. I had to learn early on not to get embarrassed by anything and not to worry about what anyone thinks. Marcia P.S. I loved the poem. Guest guest
Love the poem. Thanks for sharing it. The holidays can be so stressful, and there are always going to be relatives who just don't get it. I really appreciate those who ask questions and try to understand and offer to help in any way they can.
Guest guest
I've been told by some of the finest people in the business that it's all my fault. That's almost as helpful as family. Guest guest
That poem is awesome. I can't imagine the pain of being judged by someone who will never know the mountains you climb every day. I have been very blessed with an understanding family, but I realize this is not always the case. God Bless you all for standing up for and standing by your children. They are blessed to have you as parents. Robyn From: TAMMYandRYAN K <rtnkraft_1@...> Subject: Re: Autism Poem " nids " < > Date: Monday, December 27, 2010, 6:23 AM Â Love the poem.
