Guest guest
We use the picture cards with our child who is 6. She is not moving ahead with vocab because she knows the pictures and uses them when she wants something but no other time they are used. I don't really know where to go from here. I feel that since she has CP that effects her hands that sign is out. She can say most of the picture cards but not too clearly. How did you get the Apraxia dx?? Sedona has Epileptic Aquired Apraxia. Due to Landau Kleffner Syndrome. She doesn't fit the LKS dx anymore. What should I do about school ??? What program should I look for?? She is in a Autistic Program now Full day but she is not autistic. She knows what she wants and if you ask her to show you the picture of a red square she can. If you ask her what the red square is she can't always tell you. -- Re: [ ] what does this mean? Just another thought. Picture cards are an abstract venue as a means of looking into comprehension. Your seven year old sounds as though she has not completely moved from concrete to abstract thinking and many at this age have not. She probably has no real life experience with strong winds blowing umbrellas backwards or perhaps she has no background knowledge of the sun melting her ice cream cone. Show her a card with an activity that she has experience with and she will probably surprise you. She has probably asked you for help in the past when needing to get off a bench or reaching for something. Those cards are not good measures of your child's receptive language skills unless only those that are meaningful and relevant are used
Guest guest
I was using the picture cards with our non-verbal son. Then I read the book about teaching him to read and now he uses words to communicate (just one word at a time). I'm trying to teach him to spell the word now but I'm not having much success. He'll do the first letter of the word and that's all. The book I recommend is How To Teach Your Baby To Read, by Glenn Doman. Also, I got him into the internet reading program called Time2Read. He loves it. They give discounts for brain injured children. (ny 5 1/2)
Guest guest
guardia or crytopsoridium are to small to be easily filtered. could be either of those. sometimes the quickest way is just take a short course flagyl or whatever is used for those parasites rather than test. gee you have been risking it, i get my water from a river or a spring, ALWAYS take it up to the first level in a pressure cooker, but five minutes boiling should be adequate. the other thing is use a bottle in still water and take the water midway between the top and bottom. > we (daughter and self) might have parasites or other such water > borne problems. > > too tired/spacey too look for answers. > what shall we do? > > seems to be now a week of chronic diarrhea for us. > comes and goes, for a day stops. > even when not, severe stomach cramps OFTEN. > wether eat or not. > doeznt matter. > > asking doc to do samples of stool seems too difficult right now. > with no " cure " from doc. what does it matter which strain it is. > > son never got it. > > our drinking water comes from the lake. > summer is ofcourse busy time at the lake. > besides all the dogs swim in it. > we do have brita filter, but what does that do to parasites? > nothing? Guest guest
Giardia is a real possibility. Collecting stool isn't real practical since it probably isn't formed any longer. Labs have these things that look like toilet seat covers, but like a child's potty chair it doesn't have a hole in it. Then you just pour it into the collection bottles you're given. ----- Original Message ----- From: lilghostie35 Sent: Saturday, August 23, 2003 9:56 PM Subject: please help we (daughter and self) might have parasites or other such water borne problems. too tired/spacey too look for answers. what shall we do? seems to be now a week of chronic diarrhea for us. comes and goes, for a day stops. even when not, severe stomach cramps OFTEN. wether eat or not. doeznt matter. asking doc to do samples of stool seems too difficult right now. with no " cure " from doc. what does it matter which strain it is. son never got it. our drinking water comes from the lake. summer is ofcourse busy time at the lake. besides all the dogs swim in it. we do have brita filter, but what does that do to parasites? nothing? Guest guest
If you are using monolaurin it could be coconut allergy related. If you are using lauricidin, it is not made from coconuts and wouldn't necessarily mean an allergic reaction but I suppose it could. I would be more inclined to say it was die off if you were using lauricidin. If monolaurin, then consider die off but also consider a coconut allergy. And yes, if she's been gfcf the rash could be related to the cookies and not have anything to do with the monolaurin. If you give the next dose of monolaurin and it looks progressively worse with each dose,t hen you'll know it's related to the monolaurin. If it goes away, I would say it was the cookies. Guest guest
Hi Holly, I think you need to find out where this lead comes from and if she has current exposure. If you live in an old house (built before 1980) it could be lead paint. It could also be vinyl blinds. You can buy lead testing kit and test all things in your house. If you find out that there is lead in the house you should do something about it, I don't know exactly what...may be even move if you have such possibility, or remove all lead sources from the house. Then you need to start chelation with DMSA - read the files section of this group, and you will have all information how to do it. It should take several years (about 2)to chelate lead. Good luck Margaret > Hi, I am a fairly new member and do not know where to begin. It came back, aluminum high, antimony high, bismuth high, cadmium high, lead extremely high, silver high, tin high, magnesium low, copper normal, chromium high, boron high, and lithium low. It's the " extremely high " category for the lead that scares me. If anyone else that has had this reading can share with me, I'd truly appreciate it. I would not suggest hospitalization. I would suggest that you consider chelating with DMSA (which is very good at removing lead). http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/Andy_dose_sched.html good wishes, Moria

Thanks, Holly Holly, if you want to look for other results with lead this high, I can tell you how to search for this, but it is going to take some time and patience---- so here is how if you want to do it: 1. go here: http://home.earthlink.net/~moriam/HOW_TO_hair_test.html Look for the section on " posted results " of hair tests. There will be a whole bunch of links. Click on each link and look at lead values. This includes DDI hair tests (with complete information) but ONLY through some date (maybe a year ago or longer?) 2. A lot more hair tests have been posted since then. To find them, select an element that is listed in the " format " of a DDI hair test, but which is NOT commonly discussed on the list. Such as " Rubidium " or " Zirconium " . Search in the message archive for this word. (It will appear in EVERY posted hair test result posting.) Check for lead results. I am POSTITIVE there have been lead results posted that are higher what yours was. I remember one that I thought was just amazingly high. good wishes, Moria

My daughter's level of lead in her hair was 15 with the same reference reange of < 1. After 9 rounds of ALA only it went down to 9.6. After another 18 rounds (13 of which included DMSA) it went down to 2.7. I hope this reduces your shock a bit. Dagmar. The > test results show that her lead level is " extremely high. Guest guest
After increasing pain in my feet i went back to the rheummatologist who told me that the best he can do is keep me on 20mg of mtx and add sulfazine (sp) because the pain is mainly in my tendons, not my joints, and that the biologics are designed to help joint pain. has anyone heard about this? Hi Leonora, I, too, am confused about this one. The biologics interupt the imflammatory process by blocking a T-cell called tumer necrosis factor. I thought this could involve tendons, muscles, cartilidge, and not just the bones. I know one term they use is enthesitis....inflammation where the tendons meet the bones and it is helped by the biologics as far as I know. And if you have NO joint pain....why the MTX and sulfazine??? And, as I understand it, much of our problem is located in the lining around the joints (synovial lining) Do your tendons hurt you at the joint areas???? someone gave us an excellent article on the biologics and pa by Dr. christopher Ritchlen www.medscape.com/rheumatologyhomepage It is listed there on the Rheumotology homepage and includes drawings of where the TNF cells are located. Maybe he feels the MTX is covering your pa...and no Enbrel is needed. Have you looked in our database for approved Docs for someone who could give you a second opinion? Good Luck, Marti
Guest guest
Marti, Thank youfor your response. I find it confusing that current doctor calls my case " extremely mild " -- I mean, without the 100mg of Inocin I take daily plus the 300mg of neurotin I wouldn't be able to stand up. He thinks that I am really upset about " other things " in my life that I have not discussed with him. Sure this is true -- I have lost my boyfriend and most of my social life because I am hardly able to get anywhere. This is not to day that he is not a good doctor. He gave me a thorough exam, always returns my phone calls, and has a great reputation. On the other hand though I had to ask for the x-ray (which I heard is common protocol) and he changed his mind about the Enbrel for seemingly no reason. Also, while the pain is only in a few joints (toes) the achilles tendon by the bone hurts as well as the synovial lining in the balls of my feet. I really would like to see Dr. Ritchlen. I am located in the NYC area and would be willing to take a bus or a drive if it is not too far. Basically

Guest guest
Welcome! Its not uncommon for MDs - even specialists - to be ignorant of the treatment for low T. I suggest you read the AACE Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of Hypogonadism. You can find it in the " Links " section of the forum in the yellow bar to the left. Please prepare yourself for the task of driving your own proper medical treatment. Unfortunately, most of us have had to get very assertive to get the care we need. HCG is the alternative drug you're referring to which could preserve your fertility. It really depends on the type of hypogonadism you have. Primary Hypogonadism is failure of the testes themselves. HCG will not help this form of Hypo. Secondary Hypogonadism is a failure of the brain to send the proper messenger hormones to the testes. HCG may help in this case. In any event, you need thorough testing to determine the type of Hypo you have and the proper course of treatment. Regards, K4 > Hello - > > I'm new to the group.
