Guest guest
what dose of zoloft is a starting dose? Started zoloft, are these side effects normal? We started my son on zoloft and his stimming has increased to unbearable. His scripting has never been this BAD! Is this normal and do we push through or do we need to switch ssri's? I am very new to this and am unsure whether to continue with the ssri.
Guest guest
It " amped up " our child, as well but other gains were so obvious- we doubled exercise to compensate. Guest guest
Thanks for your response. I hope his will go down some eventually. Haven't seen anything much yet except lots of increased sensory and stimming issues. Guest guest
I sympathize with you. We have gone through this with some of the SSRIs we've tried. Sometimes you do have to give it a week to 10 days before the negatives recede and the positives start to emerge. With my middle son, I always felt that the increased stims were a response to the increased blood flow to the brain. It took a while for Noah not to be so overwhelmed by this; however, that is not always the case. Every child is different. Zoloft didn't work for Noah. He does better on combos--a low dose mixture of several ssris. All the best, Robyn From: Hammes <karenhammes@...> Subject: Re: Started zoloft, are these side effects normal? Guest guest
Thank you so much for your help. Well, my child is getting worse by the day. He's been absolutely awful today with lots of increased aggression and stimming. Hitting and kicking everyone around him. His behavior is scaring me. Should I still keep him on it or try something else? Rhonda Masengale On Dec 2, 2010, at 1:14 PM, Robyn & Greg Coggins <rngcoggs@...> wrote: > I sympathize with you. Guest guest
I do agree with Bill. Although increased scripting and self stim could just be adjustments to the meds, I would definitely switch if he had suicidal thoughts or talked about hurting himself. I especially watch out for this in my youngest due to his impulsivity and inability to regulate his emotions. Guest guest
I really don't know. I only know that ssri's can make you feel like you're jumping out of your own skin. Good luck.. Guest guest
Rhonda, Someone may have already resonded so forgive me for any unnecessary info. Our son is 59 lbs and takes 7.5 mg. 12.5 seems like a lot, but I do not know how big your child is. If mine had 12.5 mg he would be climbing on the roof. Hope this is helpful! Guest guest
My son had to go through several SSRIs before finding the right one. With these symptoms, I'd consider trying a different one or different dose. Gaylen In a message dated 12/1/2010 7:56:49 P.M. Guest guest
Thanks Gaylen, I plan to phone the doc to see if we can change. > > My son had to go through several SSRIs before finding the right one. Guest guest
Thanks . I dropped his dose to 3.125 mg and he is still acting like a crazy person. Hitting and kicking and discipline is not doing a thing for him. I'm about to pull the plug on the whole deal! I really think this protocol will help him but he's scaring not only me but his therapists as well! I really don't know what to do.
