Guest guest
Hi , Be sure and ask your Physician to give you a copy of the Blood Tests. After you receive them go over them and you should be able to get a real good picture of your daughter's health. By the way did your daughter "Fast" before taking the Blood Tests?? Guest guest
Hi Aisha, I kept your response from yesterday to read again but I haven't gotten that far - it was way too hot for me! My poor husband came home from helping a friend with some accounting stuff and found me with an ice pack on my head and feet and sitting in front of the fan - I know we only get this a few days a summer but I'm to the point of wanting air conditioning anyway According to the new MELD standards which qualify you for the transplant list the only 3 tests they look at are Bilirubin, INR (protime) and Creatinine. They list as special considerations things like encepholapathy, portal hypertension and acitices. Your doctors however look at the whole liver panel to see what's happening and to help keep things in control. You can get info on the MELD scoring at www.unos.org and there is a way to get to a patient calculator but at the moment I can't remember how - look under patient stuff. If you can't find it, I'll do it again and let you know the exact place to look or maybe someone else know? Stay cool! Amy

Guest guest
, Just ask the secretary for a copy of all of your records... you are entitled to them, they are your records, not the doctor's. They'll probably make you go to their office to retrieve them but they will get them for you. Let your new doc look them over and decide if he has all of the test results that he needs. You are no more ignorant than most of us that post here were when we joined. Guest guest
Thanks Nick I have previous afternoon test which show my SHBG as high: March 2004 (3pm - 1 year after propecia) LH 1.3 U/L (0.8-7.6) FSH 2.7 U/L (0.7-11.1) Oestradiol 118 pmol/L (upto 206) Testosterone 11.9 nmol/L (9.4-60.0) or 342 ng/dL SHBG 51 nmol/L (13-70) October 2003 (3 pm - 6 months after Propecia) LH 1.4 U/L (0.8-7.6) FSH 2.8 U/L (0.7-11.1) Prolactin 113 mU/L (53-360) *Testosterone 9.2 nmol/L (9.4-60.0) or 270 ng/dL DHT 1.4 nmol/L (0.2-1.1) SHBG 57 nmol/L (13-70) I am aware that Free T is what inhibits the Feedback loop so lowering SHBG would lower overall T unless maybe used with something like Clomid? Guest guest
Hi, If a certain date was set to judge a prior change in treatment, the early tests might not give the whole picture. Otherwise the tests should be fine. Ask the doc about this when you review the tests together. Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, the problem is that there is no test for mercury that is definitive. Hair tests, blood tests, stool and urine...only can test for recent exposure or what is being excreted now or in the recent past. The real damage, though, is being done by what goes into the fatty tissue...like the brain...and doesn't come out again, except when the child is detoxing. It would take a really experienced doctor in this field to help you. But, a urinary methyl malonic acid test to test for B-12 deficiency (serum B-12 not accurate in this situation), or an organic acid test panel from Great Plains Labs, or urinary peptides from GPL, those would be more useful. Or essential fatty acids. Or test for anti- gliadin IgA antibodies as a screening test for celiac disease. (Probably your doctor won't agree to most of these, but it is worth a try.) You might want to go to www.gpl4u.com and look up some of the web pages, perhaps print them out for your doctor. These doctors need all the help they can get. They are seeing all the time now conditions that used to be considered " rare. " Peace, Kathy E. Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, I just want to say that I totally agree with what Kathy says here. Most doctors don't realize that a blood test for mercury only captures recent exposure. Even on hair tests, a sign of mercury poisoning might actually be LOWER mercury coming out in the hair compared to siblings (a lab called Doctor's Data analyzes other things in the hair and claims to be able to tell if there's a heavy metal problem based on those). The problem is more the amount coming out than the amount going in - these kids have immune systems that are inefficient at detoxing. One test that some people do is called a " challenge " test, where the child is given a chelator and then a large urine sample (24 hour?) is taken and tested for heavy metals. This may give you a better idea, but a lot of people say it's unrealiable (because some kids get rid of the stuff quickly and others not so much, and also because certain metals tend to come out first and mercury is usually one of the last) and you'd have to see a doctor who would be willing to give you a prescription for a chelator. Please don't get the blood test. If do you, the results will probably be low blood levels, and this will convince your doctor (and maybe you?) that there is no problem. Then s/he will really think you're crazy if you want to pursue further! Guest guest
Hi , Since we don't have access to your labs, nor do we want them, nor are we docs, your best bet is to ask your doc that question. If you are not satisfied with his/her answers or want more testing, my advice, is to keep on seeking docs until you have one you feel comfortable with. We are patients like you, not docs. We can't tell you what to take or not take as meds work differently on everybody. I am convinced that Mino has worked wonders on me. Others have not been so fortunate or may have underlying problems we don't have. Seek out individual help from your doc. Good luck ~~~~Dolores Rizun <eorizun@...> wrote: Hi. I don't really understand the results of tests. I started the testing in Nov/98 and the sed rate was 28 and it is now 15 which I think is a good improvement since starting the ap back in Nov/98. But the ana back then was 1:160 and it is still the same. I have been on minocin since Nov/98 and had the iv clindamycin for almost 5 years off and on. Should I be changing to another antibiotic or stay with the minocin? Guest guest
You know, when I was doing monthly shots (won't go there again), I'd have my blood drawn for a T check prior to the injection. My last score was about 245 and that's not worth bragging about. But now I'm on the Indoplex, taking Zinc and Copper and 100mg Test Cyp a week, I'm curious how much more improved my T scores are going to be now? I'm willing to entertain your best guesses. I suppose in the end it's how your quality of life is improved but I'm looking forward to one day putting up a good number around 400 - 500. philip georgian <pmgamer18@...> wrote: No best to get your blood test on the day of your shot just do the blood work first. Guest guest
Recently I have moved to weekly injections with a lot of success and no, I'm not injecting yet either. I do have a recommendation. Stay on a weekly schedule, do not go to bi-weekly and especially don't go to monthly injections. If you do, you'll release too much testosterone into your body at once and it WILL raise your E2 levels TOO much, making you worse than when you started. Believe me, I struggled with that for years until I went to weekly. It will make that much difference. gettin_older <gettin_older@...> wrote: These were my levels while on 7.5 g/day of Androgel: Range Test Result Testosterone Total 350-890 ng/dl 301 SHBG 11-80 nmol/L 20 Free Testosterone 47-244 pg/ml 68 % Free Testoserone 1.6-2.9% 2.3 Since switching to 100 mg weekly injections of T-Cyp six weeks ago.
