Re: Laughing seizure or not

I am actually a neurolgical nurse and specialize in seizures.

It could be a behavioral thing, absolutely, but I am thinking it is more. The

way the behavior starts with a tantrum and then goes to laughing, without

exterior changes is a little suspicious. What do his eyes do during these

episodes? That can be very telling. Are they different than normal? Does he

seem to be in your world, more or less than normal?

So many of our kids have seizures that go undiagnosed. I would go to a GOOD

pediatric neurologist and speak with him about it.

You can email me offline if you have more questions, happy to help. In fact, I

am actually taking Mason on Monday to a neurologist for absence seizures. So, I

do understand both sides.

end of them he starts this crazy laugh. His eyes look glaze and it last about a

minute or two. Its very contagious and we are relieved that his tatrum is

starting to come to and end... Then he gets quiet for alit bit and then hes

fine... Didnt think nothin of it. Well I was telling his teacher about it and

she says he did it about 4 times since sept witch she can recall. She said it

was weird but just kindof ignored it and it would stop inn about 2 min... She

said he wasnt even laughing at anything. He had no fits prior to that happening

at school. Hes actually very quiet at school their goal for the year is to get

him to talk more... Well i said something to his Dr and he doesnt seem to

worried about it and says its probably just a stress thing... But another Dr I

see says it can be more to just that... Has anyone had this problem.. He is 6

yrs old and in first grade

Kim,

Has your child been treated for yeast yet? My son did these kind of things

too in the beginning. He would get hyper and acted almost drunk. Those

kind of things went away after the treatment. Email me if you want me

to send the medical about what we did to help our son recover.

Our 2 yo son stopped this behavior when he was put on antifungals. He was first

on Nistatyn, then tried something stronger & went on Diflucan, then on Sporanox

(suggested by the lab report), then he went back to Diflucan, as the Sporanox

did not respond as good.

If he is off of an antifungal, yeast will come back.

Our son used to get these laughs in the middle of the night, while in complete

darkness. The last time we took him off antifungals, not only did he get these

weird laughs back, his eyes were also dilated.

Needless to say, he's been on Diflucan for about 3 months, and has improved

tremendously! I love seeing him laughing, but these laughs would hurt more than

anything else...

I hope this helps, and he can get tested for Candida overgrowth is you haven't

considered this.
