Hey ,

Would you mind sharing a couple of your recipes? Like the Carne Asada and

the Lentil Dall? Anything else? I tried looking up some Carne Asada

recipes online, but we¹re banned from citrus per Dr. G (I think many of us

are) so I¹m not sure how to make it. What do you do?

I found this recipe for Lentil Dall...

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/30/health/nutrition/30recipehealth.html?_r=1

Does that one look good (minus the cow yogurt)? I think I¹m going to try

it.

Thanks,

Caroline G.

While Dr. G does allow a small amount of specific starches in the diet it is

important that your child does not get them, or fruit after 4 in the

afternoon.  We normally have goat yogourt with rice krispies and peter pan

peanut butter or 1 piece of wonder bread with PB and a bannana.  If it is a

school day, lunch will consist of a sandwich with goat cheese, ham or

hummuss, pear or apple sauce, carrot or celery sticks and a piece of fruit

leather.  Dinner is almost always 1 protein and 2 vegtables.  Popular dishes

are broiled chicken legs, lentil dall, meatloaf, bean dishes, carne

asada...  Try to vary it.  Our kids tend to fixate on food and that is not a

trap you want to fall into.  Dr. G's diet is counter intuitive that it bans

whole wheats and brown rice.  Good starches are white bread, rice and to a

degree potatoes.  Also keep in mind your childs food allergies.  No food

colorings and basically no processed foods since you dont know what

goes into them.  Thankfully I like to cook.  Hope this helps

Hi Caroline,

My son likes plain burgers, but to make them healthy (he doesn't like

veggies), I boil green bean, spinach, zucchini, 1/2 an onion and salt

with water. Then I blend it with just a little bit of the water, add

a dash of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. Then I mix it into

ground sirloin, and add a little bit of Old Bay seasoning. He can't

taste the difference!

I do the same for Spaguetti, except I add more veggies to the blender :)

My son now loves veggies but back when.. I would process (Fine chop) Squash,

broccoli, carrots (most any veggie) and then saute' the mix in beef broth to

turn them brow, I would then mix it with beef for Tacos, Spaghetti, burgers,

meat loaf.

He would eat it up.

Yes, Bill, that is what we do also. But what do you do for breakfast? I'm kind

of struggling with breakfast. My son is allergic to eggs, so I can't do that. I

hate to give him taco meat with veggies morn, noon and night. Aaargh, it's a

bit challenging.

Thanks for any tips you can give.

Nitrate free bacon from Trader Joes or Whole foods, have you tried goat mile,

keffir or yougourt.  Rice krispies.  Potatoes cooked in bacon grease.

Hi.

I have been giving my son a fruit (banana, apple, or pear), meat, (example

nitrate free bacon), or a piece of steak (no hormones grassfed), and roast

potato with olive oil and salt  for home fries. My son is supposed to be low

on carbs, but at least by getting them in the morning, it is better than at

night.  Dr. Goldberg also recommends Rice Crispies, but my son won't eat this.

Good luck.

Breakfast was hard but I finally just gave up trying to make it look like

breakfast and I give Connor a Banana, Corn Flakes, A veggie (He really likes

spinach) and a pile of roasted/grilled meat He loves steak so when we have steak

I cook an extra one and slice it and warm it the next morning, some times two

small burger patties(I used to call them crabby patties) or bacon. apple sauce

or grapes. This is everyday.

We all eat our cereal dry most of the time lol.  I have most of my life.

If we do use milk, it is rice milk - which is way yummier than cow funk.  But

it

is a bit against the diet since it has whole grain rice - at least Rice

Dream from what I hear.  Still, my husband isn't on the diet and he loves

it and once in a while I can't resist it myself.

He would eat it up.

Mmm no sorry, but it is very yummy.

Allrecipes and some low allergy recipe websites should set you up right.

We went through an intense " cleaning " of our daughter's diet recently.

We had always stayed GFCFSF and just adjusted Dr. G's requirements to

what we already did (but didn't cut out everything he wanted). Her

numbers weren't getting better so we went with his diet and gave up on

the GFCFSF. We limit carbs as much as possible and push protein. Dr. G

told us to get rid of the rice milk and use soy milk but she doesn't

like it so she eats her cereal dry. He also told us to limit her white

rice to once or twice a week and to use potatoes instead as the carb of

choice. He never told us to cut out fruit but he told us to cut out

strawberries (her fave) so she usually eats bananas with an occasional

apple. She used to eat grapes, which he was fine with, but she is out

of her grape loving phase. His diet is so much easier for us then her

previous diet and her numbers have been better the last two blood draws.

Her breakfast is rice crispies and Wellshire Farms turkey bacon (no

preservatives). Her lunch is usually goat cheese (I found these cute

little individually packed medallions at Trader Joes and she eats it

like yogurt), turkey bacon and a banana. If she has an after school

club she will take potato chips. Once a week she will take a sandwich

on gross, full of preservatives cheap white bread with Hormel deli

turkey instead of the goat cheese or cut apples dipped in peanut butter

instead of the goat cheese. He said I can make her rice crispie treats

once or twice a week (as long as I made them) so if there is something

special going on I make these for her. Dinner is boring because she

doesn't like much. Either chicken thighs dipped in dairy free ranch

dressing, burgers, salmon or steak, baby carrots, white rice or potato

pancakes or no starch at all. We've all been cutting back on starches

during dinner and I can't say we've missed them.

I hope this helps but I wouldn't wish our boring and bland diet on

anyone! My husband and I really enjoy our date nights which are now

focused on food!

It is not always easy to stay on the protocol, but think about the

alternative of having a sick kid whose brain is damaged for the rest of their

life.  Dr. G does the best he can using the scientific method to fight for each

individual child under his care.  Some of our children will have to be on Rx

for a long time, just the same way diabetics need to take insulin for the rest

of their lives.  This is a medical condition.  Our son is on a lot of pills,

but he is also in a regular kindergarten, making friends, learning to read and

won the most improved swimmer on his swim team.  This is in sharp contrast to

where he was a year ago where I though he would be rocking in a corner humming

to himself with his hands over his ears for the rest of his life.  DAN doctors

and homeopaths prescribed exspensive, useless and at times damaging

supplements.  I trust Dr G, he may be a little ornery, but hes not in it for

the money or the fame and doesent

make false promises.  Keep the faith.
