Guest guest
The mutation my daughter has is C677T heterozygous. There is also A1298C and both can be hetero or homo. I know that the C677T affects homocysteine levels.  Petra   From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Subject: RE: Deplin Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 12:48 AM  Could someone tell me what the MTHFR mutation is - or what exactly the test is called that tests for this? I am assuming it is a genetic mutation that deals with methylation but I would like more clarification if possible. Thank you. Guest guest
How did you find this out? Did you go to a geneticist? I'd love to take my two boys to a geneticist because they are very unique on the spectrum. How did you pursue the dx? Did Dr. Goldberg dx her? Guest guest
Those who are from Canada qualify for the Autism Genetic Screen which is done at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. It is completely free of charge. It involves the collection of the two parents’ blood and the child’s blood. The lady who you contact is Barbara Kellam. Her email address is bkellam@... She works with Dr. Scherer who is the head researcher for autism genetics at Sick Kids. This takes about one year to get your results back. The reason it takes so long is because not many people participate in it and they wait until they get a lot of samples before processing them in a batch. When you email her, ask for the test kit and send along your mailing address. She will send it to you free of charge. You then get your doctor to write a requisition for the blood test and take it to any hospital in Canada to get the blood drawn. They then send it to Dr. Scherer free of charge. Guest guest
My daughter's DAN MD did the test. She said this is commonly seen in children on the spectrum, so that was why she tested her to see if she had a methylation issue. Â Petra. Guest guest
My son also has the methylation gene mutation. A biomedical doctor, Dr. Robin Bernhoft ran this blood test. He is in southern California. Sent from my iPhone On Jan 6, 2011, at 5:45 AM, Gage Vanlandingham <gager292@...> wrote: My daughter's DAN MD did the test. Guest guest
My son's immunologist ordered the panel of genetic tests that includes this test through Dr. Amy Yasko's organization _http://www.knowyourgenetics.com/Understanding%20the%20Basics.html_ (http://www.knowyourgenetics.com/Understanding%20the%20Basics.html) . My son tested negative for the MTHFR mutation but positive on a few others that fit very closely with what we'd seen in his symptoms and reactions to various things over the years. I think it would be very interesting to see comparisons of certain genetic mutations shown through this testing compare in people who respond well to the protocol.
