My son has been on Valtrex (second time)for 4weeks now we are seeing that he is

not sleeping and loss of appetite. He has always had sleep issues but, this has

been every night awake from 2-6:00am since taking the Valtrex. He is on Prozac

(12.5mg and weighs 73lbs 12 years old)and was sleeping fine prior to changing

from Acyclovir to Valtrex. The first time we tried Valtrex, 2 1/2 years ago

prior to DR. G, he was not on an SSRI - he was aggressive, self abusive

behaviors, loss of appetite and also did not sleep. But... we did see the

negatives that we had seen before initially, the aggressiveness diminished but

he is still not sleeping and his appetite is not very good. It would make sense

that the valtrex could be lowering serotonin and causes some of the negatives we

continue to see. What dosage of prozac is your child taking? I do hate to

change anti-virals again, but he needs sleep (we both do!!) and would love to

see his appetite return.

Is your son also on an antifungal like diflucan. Usually sleep issues have to

deal w/ yeast. The Imunovir seems to make our son somewhat more happier.
