Jan,

Yes, it is lactic acid that builds up if you are fortunate enough to be able to

exercise. I'm not familiar with cupping but I'll look it up. The other massage

that you describe is a little hard to figure out the actual movement of the

hands without seeing it. Does this technique have a name by any chance--is it

like Swedish? My problem is I don't have much strength to massage myself. But

perhaps if I could find a massage therapist I could get some relief & maybe

learn how to do it. Thank you very much for your comments & info.

muscle especially after exercise ( unfortunately I cant remember what that

substance is)unles its lactic acid.

referred to as the IT band aka the TFL band.It is a sheath of faschia that

covers the muscles  which on occasions, especially with fibromyalgia type pain,

tightens  and shrinks and causes pain.I have also had muscle spasms in those

muscles that are nearby this band of fascia.

> What works for me is really deep massage or rolling of the muscles or a

techique using cupping but using oil or lotion on the skin prior to placing the

cupping device and then running it up and down the length of the muscle. It hurts

but then relaxes the muscle after a while

> a technique I use with muscle spasms is to use both hands, one on either end

of a muscle, put pressure on the muscle and gradually try to bring your hands

towards each other while maintaining the pressure. You will get only so far, and

then simply hold that pressure in that position. When the muscle relaxes you will

feel a release or you may be able to move your hands another little bit closer

together. When that happens. use slightly more pressure and very very very slowly

pull your hands apart ( such that you are stretching the muscle). This technique

should calm the muscle spasm. Its easy to do for ourselves if its in the front of

the leg muscles but elsewhere you might want to have someone else do the

technique
