Dr Goldberg and disagreements vs lack of respect for families.

I don't often post here, but I think that some clarity is called for.

Dr Goldberg is a doctor who cares for his patients.  His patients, in most

cases, are young children who can't speak for themselves.  It is his job to

advocate for them and he does this well.  He has strong feelings about what is

and what is not proper treatment for autism.  He will make those feelings known

to parents in no uncertain terms since the parents are the ultimate decision

makers.  His knowledge base is greater than anyone else in this treatment area.

He is the best " expert " in this field, in my opinion.  Parents who want to

dictate their childs care will not be happy with his advice and at times and I'm

sure that some have parted ways with him over disagreements in treatment

plans.  That is their decision to make even though its not what I would do.  By

the same token, he should not be denigrated by those who don't agree with his

strong convictions.  I could have taken my son to any autism doctor in the world

and I chose Dr Goldberg.  He gives me his opinion and challenges my ideas that

he thinks are wrong.  Don't confuse strong disagreement with arrogance or

narcissism. bruce
