Guest guest
Did you consider cogentin for the movement issue? Depakote use for movements and inattention Our son has been Risperidone for a few months and although the aggression has come down substantially, his movement disorder has increased. We are considering going to the doctor tomorrow to discuss the use of Depakote. His PITANDs movements are very strong and I have read the use of Valproic acid helps Syndenham's Chorea movements. Any help towards this decision would be appreciated. He is currently on Azithromycin 250mg 3x week, .25mg of Risperidone, B complex (AOR Brand), probiotics and Genestra Amino Acid protein powder. His movements and inattention are his biggest issues. He responds poorly to stimulants and cannot tolerate Strattera. They do not make Tenex here in Canada. We have tried Clonidine but it makes him groggy. We have a positive Lyme test from IGeneX and are waiting on results for co-infections. We have negative Babesia from IGeneX. Guest guest
Hi . Can I ask where your dosing for Azithromycin comes from? I would love to have a paper or reference to show our doctor. Thanks! A few years ago, our son had an asthma attack and the doctors used prednisone and ventolin on him. It literally took us months to get his anger under control. He was not the same child after the steroids. He has since used ventolin without too much problem but I have made sure to stay clear of prednisone and avoid steroids wherever possible. He had a positive Lyme test through IGeneX and I have been told that some children with LD do not react very well to steroids. Our ped. does not want to go down that road again (with steroids) and I agree. It was like our child became possessed by some angry mean demon and it was a very bad time for our whole family. So that is why we have opted for abx treatment. Guest guest
Hi. If you child is a patient of Dr. Goldberg, I would check with him because it is my understanding that that these types of medications can hurt a developing child's brain in the long run.  Again, check with him.  Lynn From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Subject: Depakote use for movements and inattention Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 10:07 PM  Our son has been Risperidone for a few months and although the aggression has come down substantially, his movement disorder has increased. Guest guest
The dosing for the azithro for PANDAS comes from a you tube video with Dr Schulman. If you google Dr Schulman and PANDAS you should find it. I also confirmed the dose with my sons Doc who is on the PANDAS medical advisory board.  I have heard that steroids should NOT be used on lyme patients. I am not sure how azithro works for lyme but I have heard minocycline does help lyme there are however some side effects.  From: and Freeman <freemanbk@... <mailto:freemanbk%40ns.sympatico.ca> > Subject: Depakote use for movements and inattention <mailto:%40> Date: Wednesday, January 5, 2011, 10:07 PM Our son has been Risperidone for a few months and although the aggression has come down substantially, his movement disorder has increased. Guest guest
Hi. Cogentin is used to counteract the muscle stiffness and odd muse movements caused by neuroleptics. The atypical neuroleptics are less likely to cause movement issues but still it's possible. My son's jaw movements stopped with the cogentin but he has extreme dry mouth and chapped lips now. The MD that prescribed the risperdal will know if cogentin will help. Good luck! Guest guest
One of the psychs I work with was telling me that he uses amantadine for movement disorders as a side effect of other meds. I'm on it, and was asking him about it because I just don't know why it's helping me so much cognitively. Perhaps that's an option? I have some adult version of PANDAS.... ________________________________ From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Sent: Sat, January 8, 2011 6:49:42 AM Subject: RE: Depakote use for movements and inattention  I had never even heard of it before!
