I think it was in a link in a message. If someone on this list posted that could you please repost? I always wondered why 's immune system (autism) improved so much after we had his tonsils and adenoids out. He used to snore like a freight train and he must have had sleep apnea. Thanks, Marcia

Guest guest
Hi Marcia, I read your post about removing tonsils and adenoids resulting in improved symptoms of ADHD. I did not post the original message you mentioned but I do have a story to share about my son's experience. First of all let me say I worked in a big medical group in the department of Ophthalmology which was next to and worked closely with the ENT department. Well this is where I heard a lot about sleep apnea and sleep studies as I would often be called in to interpret for non English speaking patients with the condition. My son had severe snoring problems and asthma at the time. He always had focusing problems and we had started testing for ADHD but never followed through or received an official diagnosis. I ended up taking him in for a sleep study and low and behold he was diagnosed with " severe obstructive sleep apnea " . Surgery was scheduled and he had his tonsils and adenoids removed. The following year he had amazing improvement in his STAR testing results (state testing for California). He scored advanced in 2 out of 4 subjects with high percentages 98%! Prior to surgery my son had very low test scores. I know I have heard the Ear Nose and Throat specialists say there are improved symptoms of ADHD as far as focusing is improved, kids aren't tired because they are getting better quality sleep. In our case it was a good experience and my guess would be that likely had sleep apnea as well. It is very common and can lead to hypertension and other problems in adulthood from what I understand. I would hear my son snore from another room and that was when I decided it was time to take him in. Im glad I did. His asthma and allergies have improved as well. Guest guest
Marcia, What was the medical reason that the doctor removed 's tonsills? This is very interesting to me. Our son has been seeing Dr. G for almost 3years, started at 9 years old. He has been on Immunivir for 1 year and 4 months but, his nkcells etc. have seen little improvement. He still does not sleep through the night. This could be a missing link for Noah. What does Dr. Golberg think of this?? I am sending this through my mom's member id. Would it be possible to email you personally? Thank you, > > Hi, > > I saw a video somewhere about how getting a tonsillectomy helped alleviate > symptoms of ADHD. Guest guest
and Anecke, and I both had issues with strep. He had it a lot and whenever he got it I would get it. He also snored like a freight train and it shook the walls of the house it was so loud. That is a symptom of sleep apnea. Sometimes the antibiotics didn't work and the Ear, Nose and Throat doctor we went to said the tonsils and adenoids needed to come out to alleviate the problem. I chickened out with my older daughter when she was seven and she later needed to have them out at 22 which was a lot harder for her. had the tonsils and adenoids out when he was about six and it was one of the best things I ever did for him. Dr. G advised me not to do it. But I went ahead anyway since strep was such a problem for us. He was much healthier after that and I think his quality of sleep improved as well. I don't remember about the ADHD type behavior because it was a long time ago but I know he improved immensely after the surgery. Hope that helps, Marcia
