Guest guest
Is anyone else using a speech therapist do work on pragmatic language dysfunction? Also, we are starting treatment with a CBT person rather than ABA, does anyone have any personal experiences with CBT? I took Cameron to the Ziggurat Group in Plano, Texas, last summer for evaluation and guidance on educational issues. Very enlightening, provided a wealth of resources and specified strategies for use by family and teachers concerning Cameron, as well as strategies for Cameron to utilize in controlling his frustration. They are even useful with my neuro-typical daughter! All services wrapped up in one two day evaluation...definitely the way to go for a family like ours that has to split our time between home countries and work countries. They are on the cutting edge and the leading go-to for cognitive development concerning highly functioning autism scenarios in over 15 countries. I learned about them in a symposium about autism offered by an NPO in Tokyo, floored me to find out they have been in one our home cities this whole time. Guess we just weren't in the place we needed to be fully appreciate the service until now. The protocol meds, under the care of Dr. , has lifted a cloud that was hovering over a few developmental benchmarks for Cameron. The co-morbid Tourette's, PANDAS, and ADHD are also managed. The only real modification for Cameron is that he takes Intuniv (4mg) daily to address the ADHD. It works so much better than the Concerta, is not a controlled substance, ends the need for the Risperdone, and because it is a long-acting form of Tennex at it's molecular base it controls the Tourette's and we were able to cut out the Clonidine. Not to add to the issue, but to put it in perspective...we were told to use Tylenol if needed for headaches, pain, fever, etc. because of the condition of Cameron's gut. Dr. is not the first doctor to tell us this either. In our family's situation (3 celiacs so we are a Gluten and Casein Free home) our gut cannot break down the NSAIDs properly due to our genetic make-up and it actually causes kidney damage. In fact, daughter had kidney surgery this summer and the specialist again stipulated that in our genetic pool, NSAIDs caused more trouble than they are worth. Guest guest
Regarding pragmatic language for a high functioning child, are you familiar with Winner's work (www.socialthinking.com)? She is an SLP but has found that she needs to incorporate a lot of CBT to get results we want. Do you mind if I ask what the cost of the eval at Ziggurat was and if insurance covered any of it? > > Is anyone else using a speech therapist do work on pragmatic language dysfunction? > > Also, we are starting treatment with a CBT person rather than ABA, does anyone have any personal experiences with CBT? > > I took Cameron to the Ziggurat Group in Plano, Texas, last summer for evaluation and guidance on educational issues.
