tim -- or aubrey, or -- would rifadin (rifampin) work for someone with

excessive pruritis (itching) from eczema? jillian has a horrible problem

with itching/stuff the dermatologist has suggested & /or prescribed is of

little help to her. i don't want to assume that just because a PSCer does

something for their itching, that's something that's allowed or advisable

for a different condition. i'd value anyone's expert opinion on this. she

really, truly suffers from her itching (lifelong) from time to time, too.

if it would be allowed, then any adverse reactions we'd need to be

forewarned about? is it safe in the long-term study sense?

thanks,

maureen

Re: Itching - Rifadin

Martha,

Last week I stopped taking Naltrexone, for the same reasons that you give,

and started Rifadin (rifampin). Although I didn't see an immediate

improvement, now, a week later I can definitely feel the difference. There

is still some residual itching, but most of my scratching is out of habit,

and doesn't lead to the perpetual cycle of making the itch worse.

I started out at 150mg for 4 days then increased to 300mg/day.

My thanks to Kathie, mom of Rick, for reporting the relief he experienced

with rifampin.
