P.S. Nystatin isn't strong enough for our kids. You need Diflucan or

Nizoral

Nystatin is not absorbed into the system either - it only travels thru the gut.

Diflucan and especially Nizoral have effects on hormones too, and other things

to do with the HPA axis (I forget all of them).

That’s probably why it isn’t mentioned in the book...

Hmm - interesting question, because my son has chronic leg pain... I haven't

really contributed it to antivirals because it has really fluctuated and only

been a major complaint for the last year.

In our case, we did add salt substitue (potassium), and he had major improvement

in the cramping and spasms we were having.

Okay so what does the book say about antivirals and leg pain?

Thanks!

My oldest son has this. He has very thin, matchstick legs and his shins often

hurt. Often, it seem as if it's associated with a growth spurt. If a child

experiences leg cramps in warm weather, I get some Smart Water and have them

drink it, or some Gatorade. This helps with potassium levels. Bananas are good

too, if you can have them.

Ah... haven't tried smart water.  The only Gatorade mine likes is orange, and

the food coloring eventually gets to him.  I only give it when someone is

nauseas - fixes it instantly for one of them.  He's the one that reminds me

when

his brother has a nausea cycle coming on.  He also reminded me to switch to the

potassium salt - he had stopped eating grits (southerners ha!), which is what I

use it in.  Then he had leg cramps again & demanded to know why I hadn't been

giving him the 'other' salt anymore.  (He sounded so accusing. lol)  Sharp

kid,

though.  Very self aware, except he forces denial when it's about chocolate.

Bananas would be ok in winter.  In spring & summer, they attract mosquito bites

in my youngest.  (Mosquitos don't bite my oldest son for some reason - they'll

be buzzing all around us & leave him completely alone - won't even land on

him.

I wonder if why? Besides that he won't touch fruit... and when the soy monster

was there, mean...)

Funny story - I found like 7 spoons and an empty jar of peanut butter in his

room last week!  When I confronted him with it, my 11 yr old smart a...leck

informed me that clearly he wasn't allergic to peanut butter, because he'd been

eating it every day this week, and we had a great week.  (And it was true - he

had been a perfect angel.)  So instead I made it about him stealing food &

hiding it - simply because I'm too stubborn to give up a fun fight, and he's

so

much like me (or maybe like his grandmother) he'll go toe to toe.  On the

downside, he's got a smart mouth sometimes & you have to reign him in with that,

but on the other side, at least at home, he's very quick with his words, unlike

in a social environment with people who he doesn't know as well.  But it's that

ability to take me on with his words so quick that tells me the capability is

there - just not the comfort level and experience.  (sidetracking....I really

just meant to talk about the peanut butter...)

Now that soy & tenex are out of our lives, & we're going to a good psychologist

that's bringing the sibling rivalry down to normal, I'm enjoying the heck out of

my kids!  (And I'm shocked lol. - please don't take that the wrong way - 2010

was just a rough year.)

So much of what you talk about with your kids sounds completely normal

to me. They must be way beyond any autism diagnosis. It's seems like you

are dealing with normal kid stuff.

Sometimes he seems absolutely perfectly normal to me.  Until I see him at

school, or hear some of his obsessions.  He doesn't play quite typical, would

rather run engines etc.  But yes, very often, I see a normal kid with social

delays, because he's only particularly cared about kids for not much more than 3

years.  He's 11 now, still a little wierd.  Marcia always says her son was

still

'wierd' at this age.

I feel very blessed.

I do too!  Sometimes it's hard to distinguish - I really don't have much

experience with any kind of 'normal', whatever that is.

Don't get me wrong, though.  At home, it feels normal.  In public, give people

a

few minutes and they'll start looking twice at Garrett when he starts talking.

But Dr G and Marcia are always saying that the social comes last.

I think I started a rant recently over my uncle talking to me, saying the

family

thought my kids were wierd but that they love them anyway... I told you about

that one, right?  (For this particular uncle to call them wierd is pretty uh...

wierd - he's the most ADHD person I've met in my life.)
