Guest guest
, that is a way lower dose than what we used for my child. You can be making things much worse by using such a low dose of Valtrex From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Subject: Dr. G's book - questions Date: Monday, February 14, 2011, 8:24 PM Â I received Dr. G's book and have several questions: 1. Our son has been on Valtrex 250mg/day for 1.5 week. A few days ago he was complaining of severe leg pain (this was mentioned in one of the stories in the book). What does leg pain have to do with antivirals? Is this a usual and good/bad sign when using Valtrex? 2. He takes Nystatin as his antifungal. This med was not mentioned in the antifungal section of the book. Is there a reason Dr. G does not use Nystatin? If he does, what is the recommended dose per day? 3. Our son was taking Prozac but becomes extremely hyper on any SSRI that we try. There is a prescription grade tryptophan that we can get through the pharmacist - will this have the same effect on the brain, in the long run, as an SSRI, in his opinion? 4. Are there any supplements (calcium, magnesium, Omega 3s, etc.) that are allowed? 5. Our son always showed low neutrophils and high eosinophils. I was pre-eclampsic when having our son. This was indicated as a high risk in the book. What does pre-eclampsia have to do with a child with autoimmune/viral issues? Thank you very much for writing the book and giving all of us have hope. Any comments or suggestions are extremely appreciated.

Guest guest
Thank you ! Could you tell me what dose your son was given of Valtrex as well as dosage for any antiviral/antibiotics/antifungals? (Our son is 8.5 yrs old and weighs 43 lbs.) Our son had an extremely high CamKinase II levels (194). That was a test we had done through Dr. Madeleine Cunningham that tests for autoantibodies in the brain which are an indicator of PANDAS/PITANDs. He had extremely bad tics before the Azithromycin. Dr G recommends in his book that Erthromycin be tried so we may try to switch...His viral levels were all low (HHV1-8) but he seems to be doing well while using Valtrex. ANY information that you can give is greatly appreciated! Thank you again. Guest guest
Sorry to bother you again but I was reading in Dr. G’s book (page 125) and the dose for Valtrex listed in the book is: 250mg tid (Take It Daily??) for 35 lbs, 500mg tid for 70 lbs, etc. Our son weighs 43 lbs and is taking 250mg of Valtrex. Guest guest
TID = Three Times a Day I'm not sure there is a 'standard' dosing but I believe it was based off of weight. We were at the wrong dosages before seeing Dr. G. Once he corrected the amount and when to dosage, we seen a world of a difference almost immediately.   My son was 40 lbs when he started Valtrex and was taking 1000 mg a day. But it was broken up in 3 dosages. 375 mg in the AM, 250 mid day and 375 mg in the PM. ________________________________ From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Sent: Wed, February 16, 2011 6:36:13 AM Subject: RE: Dr. G's book - questions  Sorry to bother you again but I was reading in Dr. G’s book (page 125) and the dose for Valtrex listed in the book is: 250mg tid (Take It Daily??) for 35 lbs, 500mg tid for 70 lbs, etc. Our son weighs 43 lbs and is taking 250mg of Valtrex. Guest guest
tid on a prescription means " three times a day. " Have you noticed any die-off symptoms? Have you changed anything else along with adding the Valtrex? It is a low dose compared to what Dr. G prescribes. In my experience with my three boys, sometimes when they start to become more aware, they take notice of stimuli that wasn't registering before. This caused some hyperactivity in my middle son. Guest guest
Thank you for the email. Yes, I have noticed increased awareness. For example, today he started listing off the things we would be doing for the day...that never happens with our son! He is much more on-the-ball with what is happening but is also very hyper. We are giving Clonidine as there is no Tenex here in Canada. I feel that some of this awareness may be attributed to the increased dose of Nystatin. I am now giving it more consistently. He has low IgA and low neutrophils and the addition of antibiotics as well as antifungals and antivirals may be what his body needs to start helping it heal. I have stopped all probiotics and we seem to have gotten the right mix...finally! Guest guest
Guanfacine and/or Tenex are not available in Canada. Thankfully it is used in such small doses and it is, I believe, the least expensive drug Dr.G uses, so I get Dr. G to FAX in the prescription to our closest Walgreens in Niagara Falls NY and they ship it to me. Even coming across the border by FedEx, I only pay about $70 for 9 months and get it the next day. , are you wiping the blue dye off of the Valtrex? That is something Dr. G is adamant about. I have not yet received my book, so I am not sure if he mentions that most crucial step. He does claim that the blue dye can make patients hyper. Hopefully, the hyperness may be that simple of a fix!?! Best of luck, Lori Dr. G's book - questions > > <mailto:%40> > <mailto:%40 > > > > Date: Monday, February 14, 2011, 8:24 PM > > I received Dr. G's book and have several questions: > > 1. Guest guest
Our son (seeing Dr G) is on valtrex 250 mg 3x per day... He weighs 40 lbs I'm not sure about the nystatin, could be he just hasn't had as much luck with it... or perhaps it works differently. I think it is very important to work with a doctor who knows what they are doing especially with anti- virals, anti-fungals, anti-biotics... as inappropriate use raises virus/yeast/bacteria's resistance to medication. My guess is that if it is not an SSRI it would not have the same effect, as what he is trying to do is get blood flow to areas of brain that have shut it down. He started our son on an extremely low dose (1/8 a tablet and went INCREDIBLY slowly... 1 month later we went to alternating 1/8 and 1/4 tablet every other day... this slow introduction helped a lot... also he will switch the SSRI to see if he can find a better one) Not all kids can tolerate them though... if not maybe focus on other stuff first. We give our child probiotics (make sure no strep strain... stick to acidopholous) and CoQ10... he is OK with those as long as they don't have anything with them that can rev up immune system (i.e. red food coloring, etc). He generally doesn't like fish oils because of too high Vit A also feels that concentrating on one omega is not good... we had to stop alot of supplements when we started seeing Dr. G... but when we did, our son did immediately better. I believe it is because he was having allergic reactions to them just as he was to much of the food he was getting (even on the GFCFSF and specific carbohydrate diet) He also does blood work on our son regularly to make sure vit/mineral etc levels are healthy. I believe he occasionally uses pharmacuetical grade vits or minerals if there is a problem I would suggest stopping supplements and see if there is an improvment... you can always start them back up, or re put them in one at a time.
