Guest guest
, I have no knowledge of this anti viral and had never heard of it until I read it at Dr. Nicholson's web site. I did speak with Dr. Nicholson and asked if he has had success using Famvir and he said yes with those who had a high viral state. You can always call him directly and ask him about this medication. His phone # is on his web site. It took a couple of days to get a hold of him. He is a busy man, especially since GWS has been in the media recently. _________________________________________________________
Guest guest
Is Famvir the same name as Valtrex? Because I thought valtrex was the only antiviral we are seeing that helps HHV-6 and other viruses in CFS? Guest guest
what is Famvir? JSchopp@... wrote: > From: JSchopp@... > > Hi LeeAnn, > > I have taken valtrex in the past, but it did absolutely nothing for me. Saturday I got a prescription for FAMVIR. I only had one big cold sore and it was in my nose - very painful. I took one pill on Saturday - filled the prescription sunday - and today,Monday, it feels like the cold sore is almost gone, at least it doesn't hurt anymore. WOW. I can hardly believe it worked that fast. > > Joanne > > ---------------------------
Guest guest
, It is a medicine for treating cold sores (herpes) . Similar to Valtrex and Zoivirax. For me, it worked very quickly. Hope that helps Joanne
Guest guest
Are we supposed to stay on anti-virals for several months? I stopped my Valtrex after a ten day course per my internist's instructions but I haven't noticed any difference either on or off of it. Thanks - Jennie --- " R. Guest guest
hi doris, i havent taken famvir but i was told it was the best choice of all the antivirals on the market by one of my mds about two years ago while my other md felt that an older antiviral was a better choice.... I cannot remember which one of the older ones but i stopped after one course as the md didnt see any change in my elevated hhv6 antibody titer ,eleveated ebv titers etc.. but i would have gladly continued....(probably = to taking two antibioitcs at a time in term of side efffects but less of a promblem for me than being on a an antifungal like difflucon( the worst: horrible side effects ,i couldnt function on it ) and to add on the expenisve cost of dose per pill!! $12.00 now probably closer to twenty dolars guessing. but the end of the story is that my hhv6 antibody titer are now in the normal range and the only antiviral thing i have taken in the past two years on a semi regular basis has been olive leaf extract : orginaly 500 mg once daily then gradually work up to full dose of : 500 mg 3x daily to now once every three days 5oo mg. 3x a day..go figure it out ! ( but ebv still very elevatd) good luck with famvir somish
Guest guest
>What is FIMVIR?< Famvir is an antiviral that treats the viral component that many ASD kids have. Valtrex is another one. Carlson
Guest guest
Curious any parents of your children on famvir. What doseage in miligrams are your children on ect? How long before seeing titers in normal range? & what dosage did this happen & how long did this take? Carole
Guest guest
Hi, Carole. I have two kids who've been on Famvir for a while. My youngest, 8, takes 125mg tabs 1 1/2 in the a.m., 1 1/4 in afternoon, and 1 1/2 at night. My middle son, 10, takes 250mg tabs 1 1/4 three times per day. When we first started with Dr. G, all of the kids started with Valtrex. We didn't see any movement in titers, except with my middle son. The other two switched for Famvir. We saw results with my youngest but not he oldest. He's had great results with Acyclovir though. My middle son was switched to Famvir when his titers started to climb. Right now, all boys titers are under control. We experienced die off about 10 days into the treatment. After that, we saw improved alertness and behavior. The best thing for my middle son was a fantastic improvement in his health. I hope this helps. All the best, Robyn
Guest guest
Mine have always been on Famvir, since within the first few months of starting . Can't remember the doses early on. Titers to HHV6 didn't even show up until after the first year, and they only stayed positive that once. It was at the 1 year mark that I saw something amazing change about his eyes - his eyes started 'leading' his head one day, instead of turning head and then focusing eyes. We had JUST checked titers the month before, but when this happened, I asked to check them again - & that was the first and only time they were ever positive. Yet Dr G said that he was clearly straight up an HHV6 kid. (Even though G reacts w/behavioral changes to a few types of foods, Dr G never even particularly picked on us about diet either, unlike some who get so restricted you can't eat anything. Of course I might have already been ocd enough about it anyway - I don't remember much about those days lol.) ittle brother's titers never showed up. When he was off the meds a couple of years and having bad CFS, one night he spiked a 106.9 fever (and looked the best he'd looked in months while he had that fever). There aren't many things that can cause so high a fever w/out showing any overt other signs of illness, but HHV6 is one that can. I wish we had gone right then & had him checked for HHV6 but I was too busy getting him cooled off, then just marveling at how much better he was. (It's not like that lab would have changed anything here locally.) Which antiviral does best may depend on what viruses tend to show up in your kids' labs, as well as other markers. Dr G identifies what he calls a 'typical HHV6 kid' by more patterns in the labs than just titers. (I don't know what they are.) ________________________________ From: chocolatiluv <chocolatiluv@...> Sent: Thu, February 24, 2011 8:33:12 PM Subject: Famvir  Curious any parents of your children on famvir. For the past yr. he has been covering his eyes & squinting a lot. I guess this is one of the reason for being on all the different antivirals. Also the high #`s on his test. Has any of your children have this problem with senstivity to light? .. He constantly craves sugar We hide sweets under lock & key its very difficult. I really don`t know how these parents get their children to eat veg.(fresh) he will not. Very picky eater. His mother was the same & still is. He will only eat canned g.beans, lima beans, corn(try to limit this)He is very tiny for a 12 yr.old. His allergen test came back low whih I assume is good. So hopefully this inc. in Famvir will help him. Dr. G. mentioned also getting his eyes checked. Thanks Carole> > > ________________________________ > From: chocolatiluv <chocolatiluv@...> > > Sent: Thu, February 24, 2011 8:33:12 PM > Subject: Famvir > >  > Curious any parents of your children on famvir.
