Guest guest
Dr. Goldberg more than once has recommended an English language learning software to help with the development of expressive language skills. I purchased a program that was good, but as we got further into it, Noah had difficulty relating to the subject matter. I really don't think my 10 year old needs to know where the train station is or how to order a bottle of Cabernet in a restaurant. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of cost-effective alternatives. Muzzy is pretty expensive. A couple of weeks ago, I was on Amazon and found " Hooked on English " from the makers of " Hooked on Phonics. " Noah has been using the program and we love it. It starts with the basics--greetings--and moves on from there. It comes with workbooks, 9 computer DVDs, 10 CDs, workbooks and story books. The interest level is high because the characters are cartoon kids. There is also a music CD but I haven't listened to it yet. It doesn't look as if " Hooked on Phonics " makes this anymore, but I bought it from one of the independent Amazon sellers. The best news: less than $30. I just thought I would post this in case anyone was looking for a cost effective language program specifically for kids. All the best, Robyn
