Need advice on recent ssri change

It has been so long since i posted I dont even recognize most names on the list

anymore.

We recently switched ssri to try to gain some ground particularly in

communication. I noticed when my son would go to talk to someone he stumbled

(stuttered) to get the words out...like his brain knew exactly what it wanted to

say, but his mouth wasnt moving. He was on Paxil...a very low dose as we found

with this ssri the lower the dose the better off he was (2.5 mg daily).

We switched to celexa (15 mg a day). It has been a month. His communication

is improved *but only at times*. Celexa may also be easier on his gut but that

may be coincidence with an antibioitc he took, jury is still out on that. He

has better eye contact too. But on the negative, he is so tired, non-motivated,

non-responsive and very irritable and difficult most of the time where before he

was pleasant and happy and cooperative.

Any advice? It seems like trading one set of " off " for another, and so hard to

know which is better. Wish I could give him Paxil one day and celexa the next.

Oh yeah, and he is 11 now, around 85 lbs.

Thanks for any comments

Hi ,

I¹ve missed you! I¹ve been wondering how everything was going for you all.

We¹re still here in Kokomo.

One thought... Dr. G has recommended a double round of Zithromax for my son

in the past... he said that one might not be enough to take care of the

infection. Are you sure you got rid of the infection? My sons both get so

emotional and grumpy (plus they sleep far more than usual) when they has a

sinus infection... just thought I¹d pass that on.

Hang in there.

My son had the fatigue side effect a few hours after taking the SSRI.

Since he took if he took it in the morning, it made the school day very hard

for him. If he took it at dinnertime, the fatigue that would follow hit

around his bedtime and he was more alert in the morning.

Hi Caroline! Thanks for the reply. You know, it is very possible that he has

lingering effects from being sick a couple of weeks ago. And maybe just still

recovering. His sinus is always a mess so we have to stay on top of the allergy

meds. I have missed talking to you too. And we are still here too! Thnaks

again, and hope all are doing well.

I can totally identify with this. His school days are hard, and that kinda has

a snowball effect with getting behind in school. I was hoping by now the

fatigue would go away, but maybe evening time is worth a shot.

Thanks!

When you switch meds it takes some adjustment for the body. Give it some

time. I also didn't want to change from Prozac to Celexa for . Why

change when things seem to be working so well? However, Celexa brought

even more than I could have hoped for. is still on Celexa today and

totally amazing. He had to drop a Spanish class at college this week

because the hours in class on Tuesdays and Thursdays were too long. My son

(on his own)wrote the Spanish professor explaining the situation and how he

didn't have another option other than dropping his class. He thanked him

for being such a great teacher and how much he enjoyed the class. I just

want to know who is this kid and what did he do with my son. Hang in there

a little longer.

Best,

Marcia
