Guest guest
Hi all, I've had floaters since I was a teenager - maybe my GD goes back that far. I've got this tremendous desire to know when.... After all this talk lately about the dentist, I got a call yesterday to remind me I have a dentist appt today. Ugh. I know two teeth are sensitive and his hygenist will have fun with them. Oh well, wish me luck Kate Pam wrote: Mona, You say you can not get anyone to agree with you on the floaters. Well, I do. When my eyes were still bad, I had the clear, surrounded by a line, type floaters. They are basically gone now, that my eyes have improved so much on their own. It took a log time, and only after my levels were closer to normal for a year or so. I believe there are different kinds of floaters. Seems someone , somewhere, had floaters that were solid. And it seems they might be more permanent. But I am trusting my memory here. (risky at best. LOL). Though even the memory seems better lately. Guest guest
Wow - Thanks Mona. My regular doctor just dropped this information on me (that Graves' could have some negative effect on my eyes), but she never told me what problems I might encounter...Sheesh, this Graves' messes everything up! Can we counteract this by taking vitamins? Anyone have any experience here? I always take antioxidants and the last time I was tested for my eyes (6 months ago) the doctor told me my eyes were healthy. Darn, my insurance only covers once-yearly physicals for eyes. Guest guest
Thanks Donna - I'm home again and in one piece. So far they found only one new cavity - under an existing filling of course. I think there is another problem and am debating whether or not to bother to mention it. Dentist was really kind today. Being a Grandma-to-be seems to be making me very emotionally vulnerable. I could have cried in his office - sorta like at a wedding - when he was kind enough to hunt me down just to say hello. Kate Donna wrote: Chin up, Kate! Guest guest
OK, I try not to be negative and bitch about all this thyroid stuff and all the " bad " doc's that don't know their head from their ***, but after reading so many things that people have been experiencing and reflecting back on my exact same symptoms that I have told the doctors about, I am angry. So I guess it is my turn to vent. About five or so years ago, I went to my eye doctor and he diagnosis me with Glaucoma. Then, two years later I get diagnosed with Graves and the next time I see him I told him about it and he say's " your thyroid has nothing to do with the pressure levels in your eyes, your Grandma had Glaucoma, didn't she? " I have to go see this guy next week, should I give him an ear full? I just can't believe all the different things that thyroid problems can cause. But what is even more unbelievable, is how little doctors (even Endos) know about Graves and how they misdiagnose symptoms all the time. Guest guest
Right On! Doesn't everyone just get furious from time to time? But the problem as I see it is that we've educated ourselves in that area far more than most doctors are exposed to. Wake up MD's and Opthmologists! We know what's not okay! Guest guest
Hi Arlene, Don't worry about your eyes. If you were having a problem, you'd know it! Some minor irritations include dryness, burning, headaches, change in vision. If your eyes become dry, use something like REFRESH that is preservative free so that you can use as much as you want. My experience with eye problems included bulging, eyelid retraction, muscle pain around or in the eyes, vision changes. Once my thyroid was stabilized so did my eyes. I was getting checked every six months because my eye pressure went up - I think it was because my eyes were bulging a little. I still experience occasional " weirdness " such as muscle movement around the eyes, dryness or headaches. I notice this when I'm stressed or hungry. I take vitamins and ask Elaine and lots of questions and visit their website often. Also, if your eyes became a problem it would fall under the " medical " category and you'd have to see an ophthalmologists (an MD). Don't worry though, chances are you won't have any problems. Take care, Mona Re: Dental work > >> > >> > >> >Hi Jen, > >> > Sheesh, here we are working so hard on taking care of our thyroids, > and > >> battling the > >> >doctors, and then we get a tooth ache. Guest guest
Hi Mona, Another reminder to just trust my body and what it is telling me! Thanks for this support, and for the support in the next message encouraging me to ask questions both of you guys on this forum, and my doctors. The problem I have been having is that I don't think of the questions until AFTER I have seen my doctors, and then they seem so inaccessible! Thanks again, everyone. Well, I am still at 25 mg. PTU and go for my blood test this coming week! Hoping the results are good... thanks all, Arlene Re: Dental work >Hi Arlene, > >Don't worry about your eyes. Guest guest
Hi Arlene, Just wanted to let you know that I was on a 1/4 pill /day for several months - the doc wanted to wean me off the meds as slow as possible so as not to shock my system. It takes time, so be patient. I also couldn't remember the questions until AFTER I left the office so I started writing down the questions. If you have a husband, brother, family member willing to go with you that seems to help. The docs tend not to be so arrogant when there's another person in the office. Especially if they ask the questions! Perhaps they feel slightly intimidated, who knows. Anyway, have a great day! Guest guest
You are right about the doctors not acting so intimidating when another person is in the room. What I have found is that if the doctor is a male, and you take your husband, then things are sure different... thanks for all your help. I have now been on 25 mg. of PTU for around 1 1/2 months. Guest guest
Hello Mona Have you come across any reasons why a doctor would want to take you off the meds suddenly? I know that a lot of them want patients to just stop and I think my endo is one of them - I was just wondering if we knew what their reasons were for this before he and I get into a row about it. Guest guest
Antibiotics are recommended for dental patients with certain heart valve problems as well as those with valve replacements, orthopedic patients with metal plates and joint replacements, but not necessarily for just a few pins. The cardiologist or orhopedic surgeon is the one to make the decision. I think it is interesting that the 2 doctors who were quoted tonight both mentioned heart valves but not orthopedic situations. Anyway, my implant surgeon very definitely recommended it for me. Steinerman N24 Contour 5/
Guest guest
I've been told by my dentist that antibiotics are required before ANY dental work for 5 years after joint replacement. It is my understanding that you take a high dose once the morning of your appt. It is not a long-term antibiotic treatment. Clindomycin was recommended (I am allergic to penicillin). > I've been having some problems with a tooth since before my THR at the end of September. Of course, during the holidays it decided to act up, just when all the doctor's offices were closed. I ended up going to an urgent care facility and getting some antibiotics to see me through until I could get into a dentist. > > The dentist prescribed a course of clindomycin during the time she was treating the tooth. If not for the holidays, plus the need to find a new dentist and a new ortho doc, I might have been a little more proactive in this situation. Next time, I'll try to be a bit smarter. > >
Guest guest
Hi Pat, I had heard that when on imuran, one should be careful about dental work but no one has said anything about being just on the pred. My dentist said that with some patients with a compromised immune system, they can take a course of antibiotics if having major dental work done. I too would be interested in any feedback concerning crowns as I have not one but 3 to be done and i have been sitting on the fence. The specialist when I asked a couple of months was not forthcoming with any info. I guess as a liver specialist she is not interested in anything else but will ask again at my next appt. in early May. Hope to get some other opinions. Take care! Guest guest
This is for anyone who wants to listen and feed-back welcome. I am up after three hours sleep. Lyme related Insomnia. I am having fillings and a crown which I have had in my mouth 40 years taken care of by the Insurance we poor people who fall in the crack of being so low Income we don't have dental coverage unless we are willing to just let them pull the teeth. The bridge-work I've had for 40years Involves three teeth. It has already been pulled and now I am going this morning to have a filling replaced. I have always taken really good care of myself and that Includes cleaning my teeth and only flossing the ones I want to keep. Just kidding about the floss. I want to keep them all. Guest guest
Hi Debbie I had to have 4 root canals done in a row. I had my wisdom teeth out when I was young. Does the dentist want to do this all at the same time? " Debby Hudson (Padilla) " <debbypadilla@...> wrote: So my dentist says I need to get a root canal done. When I was 14 I broke my front tooth and half was missing. At the time a cap was put on the top half and has been there since. The dentist says that the nerve and tooth are dead and starting to get infected. Also he says I need to have all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. I also have 4 cavities. Any advice on this? Should I be concerned? Anything special I should ask for? Thanks for any info. Luv, Debby San , CA
Guest guest
No, he is doing each thing seperately. I was reading the Weston Price article how he was saying root canals are bad news. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should look out for in terms of having a specific type of filling put in, avoiding the root canal altogether, etc. Luv, Debby San , CA --- MAGGIE RIDEOUT <lavaforme@...> wrote: > Hi Debbie > I had to have 4 root canals done in a row. Guest guest
Well Debby, they are bad news. You'll have a dead tooth in your mouth. Maggie will have four. Dead teeth create toxins in your body, being a dead element. This can be hazardous to a weakened immune system. You have be absolutely sure as what he puts into the canal. Make sure it is no amalgam, some dentists still do that. That is even worse. The mercury will get into your system more easily still than through cavities. But don't except amalgam anyhow! It really bad, because of the mercury leaching in to your body and the brains are so close to your teeth. Mercury is a nerve toxin. It is not allowed in the environment, but it's still allowed in your mouth! Strange thing.. It's the dentist's that are afraid of claims that keep the myth up that mercury is safe. I see an 'organic' dentist, i.e. she is aware of the problems some dental work can create to your health. Try to talk to your dentist and explain that you're health is so weakened, that you are on a very strict diet and that he or she could help you a lot by thinking along with you to help your health improve. It could be he doesn't know anything about it. There are good sites that give more information. Just Google a bit and you'll find out for yourself. Good luck! a -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: [mailto: ] Namens Debby Padilla-Hudson Verzonden: vrijdag 13 januari 2006 22:37 Aan: Onderwerp: Re: [ ] Dental Work No, he is doing each thing seperately. Guest guest
Hi, The short of it is that it's not a good idea to get root canals/crowns. Sometime ago, I checked with my environmental MD on the issue of crowns/root canals. She said that the general consensus in the alternative/holistic health community is that root canals and crowns are a no-no to put it simply. The resulting environment in the mouth at that place is not sterile and can easily degrade into infection, often undetected, low grade and chronic, which creates havoc with one's health. Also, unless one gets treated by a holistic dentist, the materials used are toxic (amalgalm or not) and leech in the body. My enviro. MD had 7 crowns/root canals removed (she had severe environmental allergies and her immune system was severely compromised). She had a very light weigth partial done, made with non- toxic, biocompatible material (porcelaine; and zeolite I think, not sure); she says she doesn't even notice her partial because it's so light. I myself am planning to have my 2 root canals/crowns removed at earliest convenience. For more info on the harm root canals/crowns can do, you can search the Internet (google, , etc.) by key words Hope this helps. Fran
Guest guest
I agree with the assessment that root canals & crowns are bad news. I had a root canaled tooth with a crown on it. Basically it is already dead when they remove the nerve & other internal structures of the tooth to stop the pain. It doesnt stop infection however. Basically it becomes a sealed time bomb. The only one that benefits is the dentist who charges you money to " save " a dead tooth or rather saves you from having a gapping hole where the tooth used to be. Then they charge you again when it starts to abcess & needs to be yanked out anyways. Talk about double dipping. My advice is to face the inevitable now & have it pulled saving yourself time & money rather than delaying the end result. The tooth is gone so use money saved now to make a partial denture. Your health will thank you as well. I did get 10 extra years with the tooth still there, but at what cost to my health with all the poisons draining into my body? Guest guest
Debby, I'm not sure, I don't have much knowledge in that area. I hate having tooth issues. I had to have my molar pulled out because the root canal did not take. Sorry that you have to go through all this. Ill pray for you Debby Padilla-Hudson <debbypadilla@...> wrote: No, he is doing each thing seperately. I was reading the Weston Price article how he was saying root canals are bad news. The thing is that the dentist told me the tooth is already dead and has a low grade infection. The tooth broke and died 18 years ago. So I guess I'm asking should I just have the root canal and make sure they put good material in it, have the tooth pulled, leave it there or what? > mouth! Strange thing..
