Guest guest
Dear Listmates, Even though we are doing things medically, we still need to work with our kids to teach them all they missed. This is a piece of the puzzle some parents don't realize they must do. And to get our kids better we need to teach what other kids just learn. To develop language sometimes music is magical for our kids. Many are gifted musically and love anything electronic like computers. So use what they love to teach them. (Most important piece of advice I ever got!!!!) I used the " Disney Sing a Long DVD's " a lot to teach language and to get a break. They were videos in the olden days, but still worked for us. Whenever I needed to get something done, I would pop in one of these videos because he would be mesmerized by them. Of course I still wasn't happy even though he was quiet and not bugging me. At those times I usually had tremendous guilt because I was cooking dinner or doing something other than teaching him. Us moms that care are truly neurotic. But those neurotic OCD tendencies are why our kids will get better. We will not stop talking to them even though they don't respond and will do whatever it takes to help them. The hardest part is not knowing that it will be okay some day after all this hard work. We still see images of group homes and all the things we fear. However, those images keep us working and also crying because we are afraid for their futures. So here is a link to some of the Disney DVD's: There are a bunch of them here at a good price: http://www.buy.com/prod/sing-along-songs-bare-necessities/q/loc/322/20199809 2.html Here is another link to Disney DVD's: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00008432O/ref=asc_df_B00008432O1359556?smid=ATVPDK IKX0DER <http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00008432O/ref=asc_df_B00008432O1359556?smid=ATVPD KIKX0DER & tag=hyprod-20 & linkCode=asn & creative=395093 & creativeASIN=B00008432O> & tag=hyprod-20 & linkCode=asn & creative=395093 & creativeASIN=B00008432O You can buy them cheaper if you go the " used rather than new " route. Rugrats, Doug and Mr. DVD " S are great for teaching social skills and language. Mr. used to annoy me before because he talked so slow. But after , I loved him for talking slow and teaching some of the important things in life. Also here are great computer programs for the near future. Anything Edmark is great for our kids because they are language based. When you are learning Science you are also learning Language. Here's one of the many websites to order the Edmark Programs: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_15?url=search-alias%3Dsoftware <http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_15?url=search-alias%3Dsoftware & fie ld-keywords=edmark+software & sprefix=edmark+software> & field-keywords=edmark+software & sprefix=edmark+software Your kiddo might enjoy doing these computer programs with her brother. These are some good ones to get you started but there are tons more: Thinkin Things Collection 1 ( Personal favorite--I love the Frival shop still) Sammy's Science House Millie and 's Preschool Millie's Math House 's Book House Trudy's Time and Place Math Blaster Reading Blaster Get other good Reading and Math programs too. If your child is ahead academically, then they don't think he/she is so weird, just an absent minded professor. Okay, you have lots of work to do. You go girls!!! Remember to call if you need help.
