Guest guest
Nellie, suggested using a pediatrician. I have used the family physician for meds. What I found most effective is already knowing which med I wanted. I would also provide him with the information to know how to introduce it, what amound is needed, etc. So basically, I only needed the piece of paper. Granted, not all doctors allow this kind of 'procedure' but I have known him for 20+ years, and when I allowed him to prescribe, he tended to underdose. I also have this kind of relationship with the kids pdoc, except that we discuss the change since we're working as a team. Do I understand that Josh was taken off paxil and not provided with an alternative??? Was the procedure to come off explained to you? take care, wendy in canada
Guest guest
Nellie, We have Ian's pediatrician prescribe the medications that he needs for OCD because Dr. Hatton is a psychologist and I could not stand going for 15 minute med checks with the psychiatrist once a month and having to use up therapy appointments for insurance. Guest guest
Nellie Ellen's pediatrician(with the psychiatrist's recommendation)prescribed for a short time, but she was unwilling to up the medication above the approved amount for children. When I found another psychiatrist,we have used only him for meds.Ellen has had a terrible time with medications, and her meds are constantly being changed, discontinued, increased, etc.,so I felt I wanted someone who is trained and knows what to look for to administer her medications.Ellen also has had stomach aches, chest pains, headaches. However,at one point, she was on Anafranil and this caused a complete personality change and severe stomach cramps.I don't know if a family doctor has enough training to pick up on things like this.I probably have been no help at all,but I prefer the psychiatrist. We also have very good insurance(at the moment),so I haven't had any problems. Guest guest
Hi Dina, Bre is taking buspar and it helps take the edge off her anxiety. It is nonaddictive and doesn't make her too tired. Guest guest
Hi Dina, I know everyone is different, but my personal experience with Buspar was a waste of time. I tried it myself, as well as my dd, and it did nothing for either of us. Hopefully you will have better luck! Perhaps the combination of the Prozac with it will help! Guest guest
Hi Dina, TOmmy has taken Buspar for years and he says it helps. He is on a lot of differnt meds, and each time we have attempted to get him off Buspar, he gets panicky and says he needs it. I went through a really rough patch while the kids and Iwere displaced during my divorce (I also had a roll over car accident and too much job stress!) I took Buspar for a few months and it did really help me also. I never felt sleepy, just very even when it came to anxiety feelings. I have heard over the years that this med does NOTHING, but in our family's case, it does/did help a lot. Guest guest
My mom uses Buspar and Luvox together for OCD and is happy with the results. (though some of us think she could up the Luvox dose!) Guest guest
Hi Everyone - Looking for input to a recent increase in dosage of Straterra. We just started on Monday evening and my son was up at 3am but went back to sleep around 5am. Slept well Tuesday (1/26) but had to wake him up at 7am today and he was okay with me waking him up and didn¹t seem overly sleepy. Today, reports have been mixed, school said he¹s lathargic, OT said completely engaged, babysitter said really tired, and I¹m just enjoying a little mellow and he¹s not a hyper kid by any stretch, he¹s just busy and a mover and not so much today but doesn¹t have me Œoverly¹ concerned. But now, I¹m second guessing myself. Anyone have any experience?? So far, I¹ve liked the first level effects but this has me perplexed. He went to bed early and when he¹s done that in the past, it¹s usually a seizure right after going to bed. So far, so good. I have an email into Dr. Gs office but looking for some others experiences.
