I took to the clinic and they did a swab but they weren't sure if it

would be any good because the sore was not open. I definitely believe it has

something to do with taking the Valtrex. I will keep everyone posted.

HI , the mouth sore could be due to HSV-1, Herpes Simplex but I couldnt

know for sure. Valtrex could be causing the virus to come out of latency, I

have heard about this from a few moms. Valtrex is effective against HSV.

It definitely was not yeast but we had it cultured and we will post when we

find out what it was. I believe it showed up because of the valtrex.

It could also be yeast. It presents itself as sores in the corners of the

mouth and white patches in their mouth.

Our son's culture came back negative for any HSV but it would hard to find

unless they actually collected from a secretion in the sore. I am convinced

that these sores are showing up because of the valtrex. He has never had

them before and now is getting them every other week. Given that my son's

blood work always showed low neutrophils and high lymphs, I was sure he had

a long standing virus and his haematologist confirmed that he looked

'textbook' for viral. I believe this treatment is doing good and I will

trudging through it for the long haul!

This is happening to my son now. It is right above his front tooth. The

dentist said that it wasn't an ulcer. It is white.

My son started to have sores at corners (looks like cuts) of his mouth 3 months

after taking Acyclovir.  I thought it's yeast (he had the same cuts before and

yeast cream cured it) but Dr. G. said it couldn't be because my son is also on

Ketoconazole.  Dr. G. said it could be allergy to some food which we are still

trying to figure out.   " Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP " given

by a dermatologist took care of the sores after applying for a week, but the

problem is:  sores come back after 2 - 3 weeks.  It's been going on for 5

months, we haven't figure out the cause.  Any other kids got the same cuts at

month corner after taking anti-virals?

I used to get them without taking any meds.  But I don't have HSV and never

have.  I do think other viruses can do it too.  Mostly my lips will split and

peel now but I definitely remember the corners.  My kids are also both negative

for HSV and they've both had it before.  I never found a reason - I think it

was

allergy.

My Mom does have HSV now (I can't seem to get thru to her how important it is to

NOT kiss my kids anymore), and when she gets those sores in the corners of her

mouth, they look different - very red and swollen and crusty.  The OTC cream

for

cold sores works on them.

Is it more like a crack than a sore? My son has one of these. Appears very

different from a cold sore.

Thanks,
