Hi

Dr. G mentioned this on our conference call earlier this week. I've used Rosetta

Stone for Spanish and the exercises are very interactive so I am looking at

getting this for our son.

Does anyone know if this works for iPad? We have the iPad for the apps that can

help our son, but I am not sure if it will run this software?

Thanks,

Subject: Rosetta Stone in English?

Hi All,

Just had our monthly conference call with Dr.G and he said one of his client's

mom is a speech therapist and she has seen a tremendous increase in

comprehension using Rosetta Stone in English?

Does anyone out there have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

You can try it! Buy from Rosetta Stone directly. They have a 6 month return

policy.

We purchased something similar to Rosetta Stone called Immersion. The problem I

found was that it was geared mostly to things adults did like ordering wine at a

restaurant. I'm keeping it for use later, but I then purchased " Hooked on

English, " which is geared to kids. So far, so good.

One thing that helped my daughter a lot when she was little was the Baby Bumble

Bee videos, there are lots of them.  It may not be exactly what you are looking

for but for building vocabulary, it worked great.  We still use them on

occasion and it also has some sign language for the words and my daughter used

that a lot when she was little.

We used these as well. It did help expand his vocabulary and it seems to be

paying off expressively now.

I bought the whole set. If I'm remembering correctly (it's been a while), each

DVD covered a certain category, such as animals or travel. They were all good

for the purposes of teaching vocabulary. The also show the item in a variety of

settings. For example, " car " is shown as a toy car, a real car, a car driving,

etc. That way they can generalize the word. I also like that the written word is

superimposed over the image, thereby reinforcing early reading skills.

Depending on your child's age, you may want to look at " Hooked on English. " It's

really economical and great for conversational skills.

We have just about every one of them.  There are basic vocbulary series 1-5,

then there are action words 1-3, then Around the House which shows the different

rooms of the house and different items in the room and that's either 2 or 3

DVDs, there is a social story Oliva & Otis at the Park, Modes

of Transportation and we're using one for Prepositions now.  There is one for

the Alphabet and another for Colors.  They have different objects shown a

variety of ways and with the written word and it's said several times over the

course of the video and some are used in sentences so they can get a context.

They also have other language options, including sign language on a few.  I

love them all and helped my daughter tremendously.  It depends which level your

child is already at but we had these starting out with her so I know she got

most of her vocabulary from these videos.  I don't live in the Dallas area but

I would be happy to loan some to you to

see if it is what you're looking for or if it helps.

My son learned vocabulary, receptive language, reading, the alphabet, counting

and one to one correspondence by watching the Baby Bumble Bee vidoes. We

watched them when he was about 18 months - 2.5 years old. This was truly the

beginning of his education. He knew nothing before this.

Vocabulary words 1-5, Action words 1-3, opposites, motorized madness, all about

me, alphabet, 123s, and also a color video.

I bet you could buy them on eBay. Totally worth it.

Around 3 years old I think. I would sit in a chair with him in my lap and repeat

the words after the voice over said them.
