Guest guest
HI , the mouth sore could be due to HSV-1, Herpes Simplex but I couldnt know for sure. Valtrex could be causing the virus to come out of latency, I have heard about this from a few moms. Valtrex is effective against HSV. -Jen > > Our son started Valtrex earlier this month at a very low dose (250mg once > per day) and today showed me a white sore in his mouth. Guest guest
Some often find their kids gets sick very easily the first few months on Valtrex. Hang in there, and most find that at the end of a year, although it is usually much quicker than that, their child is much healthier - it shows. They also tend to regress less with illness as they get better too. At least that's been our experience and I've heard the same from a lot of others. But at first they seemed to get sick so much easier - especially the kid who seemed to never get sick (which was actually abnormal too). Guest guest
My girl recently started on valtrex (was on acyclovir) and at the same time was taken off of dairy b/c we found out she is allergic. Her reflux went away for about a week but the last 2 days has been bad and is still not on dairy BUT on week 2 of valtrex. Has anyone experienced any vomiting w/ valtrex?  Petra From: <thecolemans4@...> Subject: Re: Mouth sore after being on valtrex Date: Friday, March 4, 2011, 5:04 AM  Some often find their kids gets sick very easily the first few months on Valtrex. Guest guest
In addition to thrush, there are minor viruses (minor meaning they don't cause major immune reactions but you get moderately painful sores and ulcers in your mouth when they pop up) that will cause little sores too. They start as clear little blisters and then white.  With the virus, the membrane itself will be white, but if it's yeast tends to look like it's a growth standing away from the skin. You can have it cultured to find out if it's thrush... ________________________________ From: Laureen Forman <lforman@...> " " < > Sent: Thu, March 3, 2011 3:54:00 PM Subject: Re: Mouth sore after being on valtrex  White sores in the mouth is typically thrush which is yeast. Guest guest
Yes she takes it after breakfast and after supper. She has chronic reflux and is believed now to be realted to her food allergy but I am wondering if the valtrex have stired up her viruses and if this may be the result. Guest guest
It could also be yeast. It presents itself as sores in the corners of the mouth and white patches in their mouth. > > > > Our son started Valtrex earlier this month at a very low dose (250mg once > > per day) and today showed me a white sore in his mouth. Guest guest
, We have had similar experience in the past of big white/pussy sores - we did not investigate it much as it went away without much trouble. One time it did happen after starting an antiviral. One hypothesis is that it could be because of Epstein Barr - does your child have high IgG for EBV? ________________________________ From: <thecolemans4@...> Sent: Fri, March 4, 2011 5:54:41 PM Subject: Re: Mouth sore after being on valtrex Are you giving it with food? Guest guest
No, in fact he tested negative for HHV 1-8. However, I have read parents telling of how their children had negative titers until up to a year after antiviral treatment. I will certainly post the results of the swab. Thank you for your comment! Guest guest
This is happening to my son now. It is right above his front tooth. The dentist said that it wasn't an ulcer. It is white. > > > > > > Our son started Valtrex earlier this month at a very low dose (250mg > once > > > per day) and today showed me a white sore in his mouth.
