I do usually avoid any steroid like the plague, except for basically topical

steroids.  But with nasonex, this is the one area where it helps us a lot,

because not enough is being absorbed into our systems to negatively impact, and

since the majority of sinus problems are inflammation, and that inflammation is

what leads into infection (which is worse), this is the one place where I'm

willing to use them, and have only seen benefits.

I don't believe in using the inhaled ones (except in a crisis), and certainly

wouldn't take a shot or an oral one unless my life literally depended on it (and

I'd probably run that by Dr or Dr G first - hang on - I know I'm dying,

but I gotta ask my dr first 'cause he's the only one I trust).  So I really

take

the concerns on the steroids very seriously like you do.  But I don't believe

this falls under that risk.

But if you can't tolerate the idea, veramist is a good one for us too.  We

choose our nasal sprays based on whether they have a taste, because there's no

earthly way to get it up their nostrils if they refuse to taste and smell it.

Nasonex is a corticosteroid. I stay away from steroids.Especially near

the brain. My Lyme doctor said that her patients that have used

steroids,do not get well, unlike the ones that have not used steroids

they do get well. My son used nasonex for years and it was the only

thing that gave him relief, but I wonder now if that is one big reason he

won't get over his Lyme. Tammy F.

I have an on going prescription for Nasonex for my boys. It does help, but can

make stuffiness worse if you arent

using it exactly as the instructions state.

Also, as far as the person talking about the change in behavior when allergens

are present, I agree completely. I have

been fighting this problem for years. Benadryl helps immediately, but it causes

drowsiness so doesnt work well for school.

After being exposed to an allergen, food or otherwise, his temper flares and

becomes unmanageable. I give him benadryl

and with in 30 minutes he is back to normal. But in order to see the true

child, you must have a strict behavior plan in place.

We use 1-2-3 Magic. It works beautifully and keeps you from getting angry too.

I rec'd it to anyone who has children, but

also those who have children with more extreme issues. It really helps them and

you, separate the real issue from the behavior.

Good Luck!
