Guest guest
I had spinal fusion (L3-L5) in 2001. In April of 2007, I consulted with a pain management specialist. He said that I was a candidate for an implanted spinal cord stimulator, which sends electrical impulses (feels like a massage) to the brain, blocking feelings of pain. I swear by it!!! On a scale of 1-10, prior to the implant I was a 7-8----now 2-3. I suggest that you consult with a pain management specialist to see if you would be a candidate. Guest guest
What a horror story you have to tell about your back. Did >you at least sue the doctor/s for screwing up, so that you can at least have medical coverage for medicine and to see a doctor for the rest of your life? You sure will need it. > I agree with you Debi but we all had to sign a form when having spinal surgeries about " incidental " problems so I don't think Rhonda willbe able to sue. I have a piece of herniated disc that is my SI area and they can't figure out if it came from my spinal fusion surgery or the wreck I had afterwards.I had to have a lumbar myelogram a year after my wreck because I was having problems and still do. Matter of fact, the last three weeks, I have been unable to bear weight on my rt foot, it is swollen, and I have pain in it up to my SI and when I bend my hip it hurts more. I have puniform syndrome on top of my SI joint and had damage to that area. I had no pain from my spinal fusion but after my wreck. My pain & numbness of my spinal fusion went away eventually before my wreck so hopefully Rhonda will have part of that go away. I could not have a MRI because of my metal, but the lumbar milligram showed the problem area. So now I have to figure out what type of procedures I need to have to figure this out . Rhonda, I will be thinking of you, e-mail me anytime if I can help I will. I hope you get to feeling better. Bennie

They cannot tell on MRI's if discs are dried up or herniated, it can show up as a bulge and be a herniation slipped to the side. Go to the website, Spine Universe and they have good articles. One article said that you should have a discogram after two epidural of spinal injections but my doctors injected me over twenty times before doing a discogram It is a painful procedure but will show specifically what is wrong with your discs. Don't go on in pain without doing this and being subjected to all kinds of procedures. The symptoms you describe are ones of a herniated disc with impingement on a nerve. Just go to Spine universe or type in herniated disc and those symptoms will show up. Also there are several people in this group who made comments about discograms. .Each one was glad they did it to find out what is wrong. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing. We are thinking of you! Bennie
Guest guest
Jef, Which implant do you have ? This was the next step for me. Why did you consult with the pain management specialist? Was your spinal fusion a success? I have heard good and bad about the spinal cord stimulator and worry about any more invasive procedures as I have scarring. Could you reply and let me know your circumstances and was the pain management specialist a anesthologist. They usually do a spinal stimulator after all other options or most options have tried. I had my spinal fusion for the structure as I could not straighten my back and three of my discs were ruptured. Bennie > I had spinal fusion (L3-L5) in 2001.
