My son used to always get sinus infections (with the globby runny noses) after a cold or flu virus. We found that several of the antibiotics don't work as well on him to clear a sinus infection. What we found (after several courses of antibiotics) was that Zithromax worked best for him to clear a sinus infection. (The old stand by, Amoxicillan, cleared up an ear infection last summer for him.)

Thyroid medicine needs to be given on an empty stomach with only a little water. You were probably told that, but I missed it for several years. I had heard to give it before a meal....but I was giving it to him with a glass of juice along with his vitamins for the day, being careful to give it 30 minutes before breakfast. When that came up at a doctor visit--he straightened me out quickly that thyroid was to be taken without anything else!! (except water to get it down.) I give it to my son when I go in to wake him up in the morning...then by the time he gets dressed, etc., it's ok for him to eat breakfast.

What to do

I am having a really hard time keeping Amber well,

I am giving her Synthroid in the a.m.

I have started her on Nutrivene just to see if I see any difference - haven't yet

I have been using Ginkgold, Zinc , we have just started Beta Glucan which is suppose to build up the immune system.

And I have recently started Claritin and using the Xlear again for her runny nose.

She does get Homemade yogurt with her vitamins.

Not sure what else to do.

The thing is. She just got over a virus this weekend and the week before that

she was on a 2 weeks worth of antibiotics for an upper respirtory infection.

Now her nose is running again and it is green.

I am planning to get the doctor to referr us to an allergy doctor to see if that is the problem.

In the mean time is there any other suggestions on what to do.

I think our first 2 years were better than these past 2. I am sure she is coming into contact with alot more . Now that she is a big girl and can do everything herself :-)

But I just wanted to ask if maybe there is anything else I can do to get her

healthy.

Carol,

Sara's nose started running 2 years ago and they put her on Phenclor Tannate. It is a antihist/decongestant. It works wonderfully. We also have been using the Nutrivene D for over a year. Let me tell you we notice huge differences when she goes with out her Nutrivene D for more than 3 days. While my older daughter was in the hospital last week Sara started dumping things, spilling things, behavior we haven't seen in about 2 years. Now she was either acting out because I was gone or because they forgot to give her her vitamins! Within 48 hours she was back to herself. Now here are two more thoughts....1. she could have an infection in her sinus cavity that won't go away. THis happened to my friends little girl and they finally gave her an ocean spary concoction (if you want the information let me know before 12/19) and they used that in her nose and she was fine within 48 hours and that was after 4 weeks for this last infection. 2. Believe it or not it is also a celiac symptom. Good luck and I hope the allergist is helpful! marcy

Boy... I feel your pain. :-( This was a couple of years back when she entered preschool. I threatened to pull her out many times due to constantly being sick. It was crazy. We did check her for allegeries and ran a lot of blood tests etc, but everything came back fine. We didn't go to an immune specialist though. Her Ped was sure this was all pretty normal for a kid suddenly being exposed to all those germs and she would get stronger and this too would pass..... and she was right. :-) It has gotten better the past couple of years. I don't know if it's just coincedence or what, but things got better when I started the glut cream....

One thing that helped a lot for sinus issues was the Rhioflow Machine. It's sends a heavy stream of saline up your nose. It's very comfortable to use. Feels lots better then just saline spray up your nose. I have used myself for nasty head colds. It's really good.

Lately here though nothing seems to help her sinus' and I am sure her adnoids and tonsils have something to do with all this......

I noticed increased sickness with each change of schools in the early years. At early intervention, preschool, and elementary. Then very little at middle school, and he had perfect attendance in 9th grade in high school (except for a few days when we flew to Hawaii for a vacation).

One thing that I began doing about 4 yrs ago was sending my son to school with his own water bottle. Each night I would freeze it so it would stay cold and each morning when I woke up I would put the bottle in a large cup of hot water to began melting it enough where he could drink it. Since he began doing this, he was sick a WHOLE LOT LESS because he wasn't drinking out of the water fountain at school. (where the majority of germs are spread) This year is the first year we haven't done it. He is in 5th grade and there really isn't a reason we haven't done it, we just didn't this year. That being said...this weekend he woke up with 102 fever and has been sick all weekend. I don't know if it has to do with drinking out of the water fountain, but I do suspect that probably contributed to the sickness. (back to water bottles for sure!) Kristy

2 days? wow!

You can freeze a portion for backup. I eat my extras. They are rather

rubbery but happily they are small so they go down pretty easy. They too

are a great probiotic.

You could easily just put them in the blender with the rest of your smoothie

ingredients.

Now spill! How do you get such great growth in such a short time?

Number 1: Most people die WITH hep C, not FROM it.

To do treatment or not to do treatment....this is the patient's choice with

advice from a doctor. What were the doctor's justifications for not doing

treatment? Some questions to answer regarding treatment: What were the biopsy

results? Have you seen a doctor lately? Do you have someone close by for

support? How old are you? How much water do you drink? How is your diet? How

long have you been infected? " I feel bad all the time.. " please give more

detail. On this board you'll find people who are doing Watchful Waiting and

people who have completed treatment (both sucessfully and not...the treatment

failed not the patient) and everything in between.

Health benefits of beets: They lower homocysteine levels and reduce inflammation

Beets are high in an important compound known as betaine, a sweet tasting

component also found in spinach. The benefits of betaine were shown in a study

published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition which demonstrated the

ability of betaine to lower homocysteine levels. High homocysteine levels have

been associated with an increased risk of developing a variety of chronic

diseases including heart disease. The betaine, found in beets, appears to turn

off the inflammatory response which can lead to heart disease, vascular disease,

and liver disease.

Health benefits of eating beets: They may protect against cancer.

In 1997 however the mentioned it during routine blood tests and didn't suggest

anything at that time.  Last year I had more blood work done and my hepatitis c

was " active " so I went for more tests. Doctor said the pegasys/ribovarian was

the way to go but can't afford that.

I'm trying to read all I can and am frustrated that the doctors don't want to

prescribe anything " natural " , something that won't make me crazy and can keep

working, I'm also alone in Louisiana and trying to keep positive.  J
