Guest guest
Also, I would be curious is he has seen patterns on Spect scans of children presenting with PANDAS? Guest guest
I can't answer the question regarding SPECT scans on children with PANDAS. I had very high strep titers when Dr. G started to treat me. Lots of anxiety and some OCD behaviors. As my strep titers went down, the anxiety and OCD got much better. Dr. G has had me on Ery-Tab for two years now. All the best, Robyn Does Dr. G believe there should be any different treatment, besides the Goldberg approach, for a child who has PANDAS/PITANDs? If so, what would it be? He mentions PANDAS in his book but doesn't go into detail on how it should be treated. Thank you so much for your devotion to your children! Guest guest
I'm sure this is what I have. I'm trying to become Dr. G's patient too. I am meeting with a local Dr. first because Dr. G wants to make sure all my symptoms are not something else before he will consider taking me as a patient. I am kind of worried because now with his book out, I think he is going to get swamped. My son has been a patient of his for 9 years. I always knew something wasn't right but just stayed focused on him, but now I can't take it much longer. Do you mind telling me the dose you are on because maybe I can talk our local Dr. into prescribing it for me. I will give him a copy of Dr. G's book and hope he reads it. Did this kick up a yeast problem for you and then you need an anti-fungal and probiotics? Thanks, Jerri > > I can't answer the question regarding SPECT scans on children with > PANDAS. Guest guest
Hi, Jerri. I take 333mg of EryTab three times per day. We've tried to lower it to 2x per day but my titers go back up. I also take Diflucan and a probiotic. All the best, Robyn > > Does Dr. G believe there should be any different treatment, besides the > > Goldberg approach, for a child who has PANDAS/PITANDs? Guest guest
Robyn I can't remember - does he also have you on the antivirals, antifungals (I'm pretty sure that one was a yes) and diet too? I believe that he pretty much treats PANDAS just like except for the addition of the antibiotic, and perhaps some extra caution with which type of probiotic (although really I think he just watches for possible reactions for them rather than avoiding any particular one that he approves of in advance). It's actually a lot more than some of the PANDAS docs do. And again, the whole goal is to cool down the immune system, which is dysfunctioning if pandas is present. I believe PANDAS (and I have an adult version of it and did when I was 9 too) is just as much the result from viral issues in the long run even though it's directly associated with and caused by strep. However, mycoplasma pneumonia and staph can cause symptoms of it too at about 50% or more less. Yes, the SPECT definitely shows the pattern of excessive blood flow in the areas of the brain related to anxiety & OCD, like the basal ganglia for one, as well as another area I can never remember. (Watch it be a memory center lol). He doesn't feel the need to do spects so much (at least in the beginning) because he already has a pretty good idea what it's going to look like based on symptoms. I heard once that Dr Mena (who used to work closely w/Dr G on the scans before he went back to ?Chili?) could identify a child's most obvious behavior and cognitive patterns without any case history whatsoever by looking at the scans. ________________________________ From: Hammes <karenhammes@...> " " < > Sent: Fri, March 11, 2011 8:07:56 AM Subject: Re: Dr. G's opinion of treatment for PANDAS  Thanks Robyn! Guest guest
Hey, . Yes, I'm on antivirals, SSRIs, antibiotics and antifungals. I believe I've had PANDAS for a long time. I had a lot of emotional symptoms, including anxiety, growing up. I just thought that was the way I was. Now, I know the difference and it's amazing. I can tell before Dr. G does blood work when those strep titers are going up. Robyn Does Dr. G believe there should be any different treatment, besides the Goldberg approach, for a child who has PANDAS/PITANDs? If so, what would it be?
