Guest guest
I am unable to post unless I reply to an email on . My daughter has been taking Straterra for 3 weeks, some good cognitive gains BUT she is digging holes in her forehead and finger nail beds. She is Ms. bandaid head and has a bandaid on every finger. She is increasing in her OCD behaviors and says she can not eat b/c it will get in her teeth. Her teacher says she now picks the skin off her chicken fingers. Weird behavior. I am going to contact her MD Monday for help. Any suggestions????? I am in the process of making an appt. w/ Dr. .Has anyone's child experienced any of these behaviors?HELP!!!! Â Â Petra From: <meganfurness@...> Subject: Re: reflux Date: Friday, March 11, 2011, 5:16 AM Â Sorry Kathi! I think Liam is a few weeks behind Mason. Mason really struggled after his antibiotics. His poop was loose and he had bloated belly, circles under his eyes, not sleeping, etc. I was so bummed, you know how hard we worked and how happy we were to see some relief. Anyway, we just stayed the course with his probiotics and meds and he seems to have come out of it this week. I pray Liam will just pop out of it too. Also, we seem to be having some changes and gains from the remedy Will you email me about yours? Love to talk to you about it. > > Hi Kathy.I just got over reflux by using honey, apple cider vinegar( I > like the goopy stuff at the bottom of the BRAGG Brand vinegar) ,and > water. Guest guest
It's possible the Straterra has increased her OCD and anxiety-type behaviors - although it's not supposed to do that as badly as a stimulant would, or she could coincidentally have strep or mycoplasma pneumonia. Or if you have her on a multi-strain probiotic (especially if it contains L.Rhamuses (sp?)), that could also increase those behaviors as well. Was this a sudden onset? I don't think it would hurt to stop the Straterra until you can determine if it's the cause, but you should put in a call to the doctor before doing so. I think you're making the right choice seeing Dr . Sometimes the symptoms of ocd and anxiety (which I think pretty much includes Compulsive Skin Picking/Dermatillomania and may be the same part of the brain but I couldn't say for sure) also go along with cognitive dysfunction where the brain is flickering so much that it looks just like ADD or ADHD, but isn't quite the same. I find that the right kind of antibiotic is very helpful with ocd & anxiety & flickering brain, like erythromycin, a cephalasporin, or something like minocycline (minocycline is not part of Dr G's protocol but Dr is not opposed to it) if she's old enough for that one (her adult teeth have to be developed). Some are NOT helpful, like the 3 A's - like augmentin, amoxicillan = bad, z-pack not great/increases flickering for me but will ultimately do the job - just not necessarily while taking it. But an easy one like Cefzil or Keflex at a dose that covers strep could bring a measurable relief that you can see in about 3 days if a bacterial infection is contributing to the problem - although the behavior could take longer to stop, the intensity of it could ease up. Guest guest
Thanks for both of your input! She has always been a picker But it has drastically increased. I reduced the doasge back to 18mg from 36 mg and her a current MD told me to give her 5HTP 100mg am and pm and increase after 3 days to 200mg am and pm. I told her office manager that her recent serotonin levels were in the normal range and to recheck with the MD. Wondering which neurotransmitter controls the OCD behaviors and which lobe of the brain. I don't think she has any bacterial issues but who knows? I will be glad when we see Dr. . If you have any more info to share please do!  Thanks to all!  Petra From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Subject: RE: HELP-Straterra Date: Monday, March 14, 2011, 11:44 PM  Our son was taking Strattera on and off for a few years and after a while he became extremely violent while taking it. Guest guest
My son had the opposite effect once we got up to 18mg, he became lethargic, lost his appetite and was too mellow and he¹s not overly hyperactive but, it was a definite change. We are back down to the lower dose and those effects went away and it seems to work for him for now. I¹m wondering if we dosed up to quickly for him.
