Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I'm in North Texas, but can tell you a little bit about the Gulf Coast. Most of what you're going to find on the route from Houston to Port Aransas is beach-oriented. Some of the more " noteworthy " beaches are Padre Island National Seashore, Mustang Island, South Padre Island, and Boca Chica Beach. If you have a good bit of time and want to see more of Texas, San is nice and the Texas Hill Country (near Austin)is beautiful. Hope this helps! -- Holly > > Hello, > > > We have our first appointment with Dr in few weeks. I have never been to Texas . Guest guest
Kathy,  South Padre and Boca Chica beaches are another 4 1/2 hrs drive south of Corpus Christi where Padre Island National Seashore is located just off shore.  You can take a route that would be near the coastline out of a Houston, but most people take 59 South until 77 South. It is not an interstate, but is almost completely free of any traffic lights until you get closer to Corpus Christi area. If you plan to stay in the Port Aransas area, you can also exit off 77 to go there. I do not recall the road number at this time.  I currently live in Houston and lived in Corpus Christi for 30 years prior. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley where South Padre and Boca Chica are located.  Joyce From: hollypreston@... <hollypreston@...> Subject: Re: DR appointment Date: Saturday, March 12, 2011, 1:11 PM  Hi Kathy, I'm in North Texas, but can tell you a little bit about the Gulf Coast. Guest guest
I've been trying to get the paperwork from Dr. 's office for a couple of days now and haven't gotten anything. I am about to call for the 3rd time in 5 business days.  Port Aransas is beautiful. I got married there. It's a quaint town. There are dolphin tours and the beach there is nice. It's not Florida beaches but it's nicer than some other beaches in Texas. Corpus Christi is about 30 minutes a way there is a great aquarium and the USS Lexington.  Betsy From: Dean <dvsdean@...> Subject: DR appointment Date: Friday, March 11, 2011, 4:40 PM  Hello, We have our first appointment with Dr in few weeks. Mine ended up in my spam folder by mistake for some reason - you might want to check there... ________________________________ From: Betsy Cleland <betsycleland@...> Sent: Mon, March 14, 2011 10:40:38 AM Subject: Re: DR appointment  I've been trying to get the paperwork from Dr. Guest guest
Kathy, We love " Port A " . It's a quiet little sea town where you can stand on the shore and see some of the biggest ships in the world, count the lin Gulls and watch the occasional dolphins play. This time of year, the weather can be a little cool, but if you are from further north you'll find it perfect. When planning your travels. If you cut east and go down the coast through Rockport then take the Ferry over, it's a very pleasant trip. Someone already mentioned the TX state aquarium in Corpus. It is a must see and they participate in an agreement with other zoos and aquariums where you can get free or half off tickets with a membership which is always cheaper for our family than a one time entrance fee. In Houston, two great places to go with kids are the Houston Zoo and Museum of Natural Science both in the same park in the city's med center. This is the best time of the year to go to the zoo. If you are feeling adventurous (and have a full wallet) you can try Space Center Houston which is essentially a hands-on museum of NASA for kids, in Clearlake south of Houston. Also, you might consider Moody Gardens in Galveston (I think they participate in the reciprocal agreement with other sites, too) as well as the historic district there. On that side of town there is also the Kemah boardwalk; an amusement park on the bay. Anyhow, whatever you like, it's here. Houston has many small unique museums, and large ones as well including the museum of Heath Sciences, the Children's Museum, a museum of the Holocaust (tough on kids) and even a printing museum with a reproduction Guttenberg printing press. We have a Museum of the Buffalo Soldier, several battleground Museums, and even a Byzantine Chapel, not to mention one of the best Fine Arts museums in the US (free on Thursdays). Then there is the good cheap stuff. I don't know what hwy you are coming in on or what you like, but the Brenham area, about an hour NW of Houston is a great place to visit. There is an excellent small museum of TX history and a working 1850's farm at Washington on the Brazos, fields of bluebonnets just perfect for family photos, and a $1 tour of the Blue Bell Ice Cream facility with a complementary scoop at the end. If you do go to Brenham, make sure that you stop at the Antique Rose Emporium on the highway to Washington. It's like an outdoor horticultural museum of Texas. Coming from the North you can hit the Sam Houston Home and park in the town of Huntsville, not to be confused with the Sam Houston State Park just to the south which is also nice for running, climbing, fishing and day trips. Feel free to write to me privately if you are in need of more ideas. We are 25 year veterans of this area and have drug our kids to just about every site within driving distance over the years. ;-D Have fun! Guest guest
Thanks everyone for their suggestions. You all had great ideas. My husband wants to take a detour to Austin. He would love to get a job there. He really wants to move to Texas. My 15yr old wants to move to Texas for the food. He thinks Texans have great steak and ribs. I just want to start the protocol and see Dr ! Kathy > > Hello, > > > We have our first appointment with Dr in few weeks. I have never been to Texas . Guest guest
Will Dr.  fax Rx's and do phone appt's after the initial visit as long as you keep up with the lab requests etc.? I hope I can get a local doctor to help follow his treatment of my daughter BUT if not I still want to do the protocol long distance. Can anyone answer these questions?  Thanks, Petra From: Dean <dvsdean@...> Subject: Re: DR appointment Date: Thursday, March 17, 2011, 11:48 PM  Thanks everyone for their suggestions. Guest guest
Yes, my grandson is his patient. He does phone appointments and FAX Rx's after the initial visit.  For the protocal my grandson has not required his local physician to be involved.  Joyce From: Dean <dvsdean@...> Subject: Re: DR appointment Date: Thursday, March 17, 2011, 11:48 PM  Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
