Kadian is NOT the same medication as Oxycontin. Kadian is a brand name of morphine sulfate, while Oxycontin is a brand name of oxycodone - two completely different drugs. They are both in the same class of drugs - both opiates - but they are not the same drug at all. Cheryl in AZ Moderator
Guest guest
Dave, I switched from Oxycontin to plain oxycodone early last year because my insurance stopped covering Oxycontin at all. Oxycodone is the same medication as in Oxycontin but without the slow-release mechanism. Then later this year, I was switched to MSContin which is morphine sulfate in a time-release pill. We changed because my pain levels were increasing. So far, MSContin has worked very well and it's cheap too. I took Opana for 6 months. It really worked. I was about as pain free as I have ever been. But I had to stop. I had gained over 20 pounds of fluid (edema) and it was giving me symptoms of congestive heart failure. I am taking Oxycontin ER now. Please monitor your weight and edma. If you have any problems at all talk to your doctor! Thanks M.
