Guest guest
Min, All kids can improve no matter what their age. It is more difficult when they are older because you have more to teach them after their immune systems start working. I sent a mom who has a kid who is 24, not knowing if Dr. G could help her son because he was so much older and had been sick for such a long time.. But this mom reports that this is the best thing she ever did for her son and she has done a lot. He feels healthier and can now focus and learn. The fact that you did see a severe reaction with antivirals and antifungals is a very positive sign that your kiddo will be helped with . You just need to stick with it long enough to get past the die-off reaction to these meds. The die-off reaction happens to both the antifungal and antiviral. It usually occurs two days to two weeks after starting the antifungal or antiviral. A die-off reaction is when the yeast or virus is being killed off. It usually kicks up some severe reactions before exiting the body. That is why you don't want to start these meds at the same time or you will get an even more severe reaction. I know it is hard to believe because your child is acting so much more autistic, but die-off is really is great news. It means your child will be helped tremendously by the antifungal or the antiviral. You probably feel like you are going backwards at this time, and it is hard to know that you are doing the right thing. However, when die-off is over, you will see a new kid. More focused and alert. You will be amazed by the change in your child. So hang on. After die-off it will be wonderful! The hyper, silly, and drunken behavior start to go away. Now they can learn to stop pinching or biting. (Or whatever the behavior is that your child does. Behaviors that make you crazy now, will be possible to get rid of with teaching.) When your child is going through die off they feel very ill. Die-off doesn't usually last more than a week but can be as long as 21 days. If it is really bad, call your doctor. He may tell you to either increase or decrease the dosage of the anti-fungal. Once I tried the pills myself just to see what die-off felt like. You feel like PMS times twenty. During that time we didn't do anything complicated. They feel like they have the flue but worse. They feel very sick but don't have the communication skills to tell you that. We hung out and did things he found relaxing like watching his favorite videos. It wasn't a time I would try to teach my son anything new. Tylenol every three and a half hours helps. That terrible time will bring great things, but you have to stay with it. Guest guest
Can you describe the rash? Sometimes kids could react to an ingredient in the med. With diflucan, it's usually the pink dye, even if it's very light, but that can be compounded. If it's the liquid version, that flavoring can absolutely cause a rash.  (Most kids over 2 should be able to swallow pills if they can chew and swallow food.)  With Nizoral, I think it might contain tiny doses of I think lactose? Usually not enough to bother most kids, but I don't know if it can be compounded w/out it or not. There's one kind of skin 'rash' that's common in our kids that doesn't particularly itch or otherwise harm - it's a sandpapery roughness on thighs and arms, no color to it, just raised little dry bumps. Kerat-something.. it's harmless. But if you're having red blotchy rashes, that's something else. It could be die-off or allergy, and rarely maybe a virus getting stirred up. You could watch it for a month to see if it improves after. Dr G starts antifungals at a lower dose and works up to the main dose, which often reduces die-off. It may be worth trying it again, trying a different one than what gave the rash, and if necessary, you can even try little doses of benedryl (I use the dye free liquid and give about a 1/4 of the dose) to see if it helps, but if it doesn't go away after a die-off period, then you're probably looking at an actual allergy, and that's not helpful at all. Guest guest
Sometimes you get a negative reaction when putting kids on antifungals and antivirals. The key is seeing if the reaction is temporary and the child comes through it brighter, more attentive and focused, etc. Die-off can be difficult. All the best, Robyn From: ljc_dac <ljc_dac@...> Subject: Re: New member introduction with questions - second post Date: Monday, March 21, 2011, 1:57 PM  Hello, Do die-off reactions include non-behavioral issues skin rash? Guest guest
Thanks Marcia, , and Robyn to respond my post. My son is supper sensitive to most of supplements and medications. His reactions like dry, itching skin rash around hands and arms, frequently and huge amount of urine, night waking, bleeding nose, cough, more crying, etc. We quit too soon to see the result. We really need Dr to guide us through every steps. Thanks a again, Min > > > > > > Min, > > > > > > All kids can improve no matter what their age. Guest guest
The rash can be die off or it can be an allergic reaction ... it is important for a competent doctor to look at the rash to know which it is. Red ears/cheeks wide spread rash can be allergic reaction to medication (not good). But die off can sometimes cause wierd skin stuff to develop too as well as intense moodiness, behavioral issues.
