Hi, nne.

I'm not sure what the substitute breading is for the chicken nuggets. It's best

to keep it as processed as possible. Potato chips are better than tortilla, I

believe. We use Pop Chips and my kids seem to be ok on those. We do lots of

grilled chicken strips and turkey slices. It is a challenge. One interesting

note: I did away with all breads in my house. If we went out to dinner and the

kids ordered a chicken sandwich, they could have the bun as long  as it wasn't

whole grain. After a two week " withdrawal " none of my carb-aholics asked for

bread anymore.

Hi everyone,

I posted yesterday but it didn't look like my post went through so attempting

again...

We are seeing Dr. G in two weeks (so excited!). We've been trying to follow the

diet closely but had a question as I guess I'm not quite clear on this. Is

it okay to have gluten-free chicken nuggets (Applegate brand). It doesn't have

whole grain rice so I'm assuming it's okay? And are small amount of chips

(tortilla or potato chips) okay to eat everyday as a snack? We're trying to

minimize the carbs and maximize the protein but it's quite challenging!

Thanks in advance!

We’ve done the same and I think I was our biggest carb-o-holic and I can even

say no to bread in restaurants now.

Hi nne,

I responded to your nuggets question above, but didn't see the chip question --

plain Lay's potato chips (no seasonings like BBQ or sour cream and onion) are

okay on Dr. G's diet. I'm pretty sure that corn chips are a no-no, but my son

has been off of corn products for a long time (corn is a fairly common allergen,

so I pulled him off of it) so I'm not sure... -- Holly

Hi nne great to see you on here!

Dr. G has always told me that Fritos would be the best choice for corn chips

over other brands of tortilla chips. He prefers potato chips over Fritos.

They also have naked nuggets at costco but none of my kids liked those. We

do grilled chicken strips or just grilled chicken and my non animal protein

eater little guy now eats chicken!! Interestingly enough, we have not

supplemented iron in quite some time and his iron levels rose on their own.

Good luck at the appointment you¹ll have to fill me in after!

Thanks Robin and Kristy!

I'm just struggling because my little guy is picky about his food (even after

trying to adhere to this diet for a month now). He only eats roasted chicken,

El Pollo Loco chicken, sometimes steak, sometimes meatballs - and then he gets

tired of eating the same thing and holds out...ughhh. He likes the GF chicken

nuggets so was hoping to keep it on his diet...

I've tried hot dogs, sausage, eggs, cooking chicken different ways ( " different "

turns him off apparently), bologna (and other sandwich meats), bacon (which I

LOVE) and he refuses.

At least he's eating protein twice a day now (before it was twice a week!) and

he actually seems more focused/aware and his receptive language is growing. Two

weeks and counting for Dr. G - can't wait!

Thanks!

Someone once suggested to me that I always cut up his favorite foods in small

pieces, then proceed to slowly mix in different foods (disguising them among

what he likes). It worked.

I’ve always wondered just how much breading is on chicken nuggets, and if

it’s ok from time to time? I wonder if you made your own using corn flakes?

My son refuses any kind of cold meat, but he likes the nitrite free hot dogs

(turkey are better than beef, IMHO), sausages and bacons.

Instead of grains, we are using some potatoes like baked fries & wedges and

occasionally baked potato chips. Not much because I worry about blood sugar

spikes & crashes.

It took FOREVER but my son eventually got used to eating baby carrot sticks. I

recently started giving him shredded broccoli which he’s now eating regularly.

Same with us.

We saw him back in January and because we are on a GF, corn and soy free diet he

said that is was ok to have it in moderation once-twice a week.

He did emphasize not to use any brown rice, we are using organic GF white rice

in very small amounts.

Lays BBQ chips are not Gluten free; they have barley. And if you are doing GFCF,

the sour cream I know for sure has casein/dairy.

Kettle Cooked BBQ is GFCF, though, I believe. But I believe there are still cc

issues.

Is it okay to have gluten-free chicken nuggets (Applegate brand). It doesn't

have whole grain rice so I'm assuming it's okay? And are small amount of chips

(tortilla or potato chips) okay to eat everyday as a snack? We're trying to

minimize the carbs and maximize the protein but it's quite challenging!
