Guest guest
Hi - I have my first appointment for my 7 year old daughter on June 21st. As a good friend suggested, I would like to use this time to get her ready for the upcoming strict diet for the protocol. Request your help for substitutes for the various foods that she eats and are VERY hard for her to wean off of. We are not any kind of diet now, we tried GFCF and Fiengold diet in the past without any success. Here is her obsessive foods list and your suggestions on alternatives are greatly appreciated. White Rice - 2 times a day Cow's Milk Cow milk Yogurt kellogs Crispix cereal Kellogs special K cereal Oranges Grapes Popsicles ice cream pizza M & Ms gummy bears oreo cookie chocolate chip cookie Thanks,
Guest guest
It looks like it's pretty much all carbs, with a little protein from the milk and yogurt. Carbs like she's getting cause inflammation, and minimizing inflammation is a big part of what makes the protocol so effective. Goat's milk might be an option. Would she understand if you explained that all of those foods are making her sick, and take her shopping to help find foods she can eat? She should have lean protein, veggies, 2 fruits (max) a day and very few (if any) carbs from grains and sugar. Guest guest
Thanks Kristy. Are there any alternative snack type foods that are allowed in this diet? Is artificial sweetner allowed in the diet? White rice flour allowed? Lenthils allowed? Are there popsicles(ice pops) without dyes/colors that I can buy? No, my daughter wouldn't understand if I told her that that food was making her sick. Thanks again for all your time. > > It looks like it's pretty much all carbs, with a little protein from the > milk and yogurt. Guest guest
Lentils are allowed. Yes, you can definitely buy popsicles and sorbet (not sherbet) without dyes/colors and even with lowered sugar. Look for " all fruit " but reserve them for special occasions. Or, make your own with low-sugar all-fruit juice. allows 2 servings of fruit/day. White rice/flour not allowed (at least for us). Dr. G allows artificial sugar, but I won't give it to my family. Potato chips are allowed. If your child can have corn (mine cannot), then popcorn and " popchips " and corn-based snacks. Again, limited because they can cause inflammation. If your child can have goat cheese, they might like this snack... shred goat's milk pecorino or asiago and microwave a golf-ball sized amount (spread in a single layer) for 30 seconds in the microwave. It gets crispy and it's delicious with apple slices. When your daughter starts feeling better, she will understand that foods can make her sick. I started telling my son at 3 that certain foods will give him a boo-boo tummy. He's 9 now so he understands what will make him sick and what he can have.
