I had to be honest with myself and quit trying to not to let go of things that I cannot do. I also have to get someone to drive me. I also tell my family, I am going to take muscle relaxants now so don't worry if I am sleeping and don't talk to me as I won't remember. I found myself veering in a lane one time and from that day forward, I will not drive when I am on pain meds. My long acting does not prevent me from driving but if I take my break thru or have to take a muscle relaxant, I do not drive or talk to any one. I have had my sisters call me and say I have slurred speech, then I have to explain it, and they add that I am a druggie. For awhile, I thought they would come get me for an Intervention program, when I actually was having a thyroid attack from Hashimotos. I encourage everyone who has taken medication for awhile to have lab tests taken for vitamin deficiencies. I found out I had a Vitamin D deficiency and I read an article and post (here) that Vitamin deficiencies increase pain perceptions. I also was anemic, Vitamin b12 deficient, calcium deficient and when I took my vitamins (prescribed) and B12 injections I felt better. So I have made it a point to tell my husband when I am dizzy or need help driving. I did have a policeman pull me over because I did not have my lights on. I don't think this was from my medication but I don't know. I NEVER take my medications with me in my car. I used to lock them in my glove compartment but when I had to open it, they will fall out. I don't need a policeman assuming my medication caused me a ticket. Policeman can ticket you for antihistamines or any medication that has warning on the sides, so be precautious. I also ask for feedback from my son and husband if they think my medications are making me drowsy, It is just a balance check for me.
