Guest guest
The drs here in WA are afraid to prescribe pain meds because of the DEA cracking down. I cannot get ANY Dr to give me a pain pill. My dentist will though. Gave me a 30 day supply of percocet after I had a tooth pulled. I didn't need that many..But I didn't say a thing;-) But I have been to 4 diff drs, a rheumatologist, and a pain specialist and not one of them would give me anything for pain. Had a couple want to kill me with NSAIDS! Thanks, but I think I will keep my heart in tact. I refuse to take them for 3 reasons: 1) the fact it can and does damage the heart. 2)I am not supposed to take them them because I am on lithium and the two together can KILL me (and yes, they still try to give me NSAIDS) 3) HA HA they don't work. I have taken them before I found out I wasn't supposed to be. What is the matter with drs?? So I gave up, & I suffer. I am 45 and I have fibromyalgia, degenerative joint disease in my back, calcification around/on my left hip (this is horribly painful) and arthritis in some fingers and my hands. I take nothing for pain because nobody will give me anything. I have no history of addiction either. But my mom who is an addict, gets all she wants from her Dr. How I don't know. When I ask why no pain meds, they all say that it is not helpful for fibro (yep all of them) and it is not helpful for chronic pain. I have a new Dr now and I have not asked him and I won't, no point in it. He did put me on lyrica for the fibro, so far I don't see any changes. I have also been off it the last week because I was sick and wanted to make sure it wasn't the med. Turned out I had the 24 hour make me wanna die virus. The one that takes a week to recover from. I am just now going back on it, but it's so expensive. I paid 113.00 for it and I am not sure it's worth it. I will give it the month and see. I understand about doctors but my Mantra is pain diary, pain diary, pain diary. If you write down your pain, the levels, and what works and what doesn't, the doctors have to address it. The diary also is a written report that protects them also why they prescribe medication. I also research things on the internet and when the doctor has to review a written report from peers, they are more likely to take you seriously. I encourage you to keep a pain diary and then take it to your doctor. Ask them to make a copy and place it in your chart. This way it helps him to evaluate if your condition is muscular, systemic, or other ways. Good Luck and see how it goes, I will be thinking of you.
