Buspirone is actually a serotonin receptor partial agonist (I guess that's a

SRPA) rather than an SSRI. SSRIs (like Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc.) are

typically used for depression, OCD, and other issues, while Buspirone is for

anxiety. The main difference that I've seen (I've taken both Buspirone and

Zoloft) is that your SSRIs aren't " drugs " in the sense that they do anything

artificial to your system (they simply prevent your body from under-utilizing

the serotonin you need to sleep better, think more clearly, and generally calm

down), while Buspirone is an " upper. " My psychiatrist says that it

" artificially " makes you feel good rather than using what's already in your body

to make you feel good.

My son (5.5 yrs) started taking the SSRI Paxil in November, and we've seen quite

a bit of improvement -- he's happier, speaking more clearly, and has more

energy. Hope this helps! -- Holly
