Guest guest
Hang in there. My son was so mean for the last year I was reallly freaking out, and he was bullying his brother, yelling at me.... it was awful. After finding his triggers (soy protein, tenex), he has changed so drastically that I actually remember he had been sweet at times, and he's a lot of fun to be around now. He's doing so awesome this week, this month. Keep doing your best and don't give up hope. Have you pulled out soy lecithen from his diet? That's the biggest trigger I've ever seen with my kid. Azithromycin bothers my brain - can you get ahold of erythromycin instead? ________________________________ From: and Freeman <freemanbk@...> Sent: Wed, March 23, 2011 6:57:12 AM Subject: SSRI and meanness  Our son was doing really well on 1/8 of a tablet of escitolopram (Cipralex) until the other night. At school the other day he was getting ‘mean’ again and not engaging with his peers. It happened again today. He is currently on: nystatin, Diflucan, Azithromycin (250 mg), (PANDAS), valtrex (250 x2 daily) and I upped the dose to ¼ tablet of Cipralex. We cannot get to Dr. G because of finances. I don’t know if I can take anymore of the meanness. He has been like this since a little boy. Always wanting to hurt people, bully people, etc. He was doing well with the ssri but now I can see the same behaviors coming back. It is so heartbreaking to see a small child so mean and angry. Guest guest
Thanks, . My dr. said that azithro is an erthymycin and is easier on the stomach...I called him last night to discuss the change and he said he thought that Azithro would be better... Guest guest
If you just upped the dose, know that a negative reaction can last 6-12 days... and is pretty normal. However, they should be better/sharper/clearer (and anger/mood issues that developed during increase should resolve) after that period. If they are not, then you need to think about switching SSRI's.... it may not be a good fit. From what I understand you can move sideways on SSRI's meaning switch brands and stay at the same dosage so that you don't have to start from scratch
