Hi guys,

I used Actiq during transition with severe pain. You do not want

to use it unless you have to. It is short acting and STRONG and used

until your other medications can kick in to cover you. It is not used

as a replacement medication. It costs about five thousand dollars and

if you insurance is really picky, they will not pay.

They will try to tell you it is only used in cancer patients and

palliative care although they have changed the rules some for okaying

payment.

It causes cavities, and you have to make sure you do not suck on it or

place it in your buccal area too long. (inside of your cheek) . They

now make it sugar free to prevent that and ask that you place it under

your tongue although that placement causes cavities under your front

teeth.

It takes fifteen to thirty minutes to relieve pain and has a real

hangover effect for me. You cannot use it and expect to do any

activities.

So you might want to consider trying it for just awhile but a

combination of pain medication, break thru medication and maybe

something to relax you to help with the pain response would help also.

Just my experience with it. Fentyl is not my choice for break

thru pain. Maybe others it could help. I would prefer versed or

something like that if I could have that instead of fentyl. Both are

really strong medications that are not for long term use unless

evaluated. Some people use a patch I think but I have not had to do

that yet and hope to prevent it as long as I can.

Bennie
