Guest guest
It’s hard to explain about what it does and how it’s used, I’m not really good at it any way, if you will Google, Implanted Spinal Cord Stimulation Devices you will find a lot of info on it a whole lot better than I can explain it. --- Rebbecca Nix wrote: > Hi ronpat, > > What does a nerve stimulation device do? Guest guest
Ronpat I have had my spine stimulator since Sept. 06. I went for my trial like you are getting ready to do. Then I had it implanted a couple of weeks later. My device is planted in my lower stomach. I have my remote that I can use it alone or with the extentsion cord and a small flat remote. All you do is place the remote over the device and turn it on. Then you adjust the intensity of it to where its comfortable. It feels like vibrations instead of pain. I have had gotten good relief from my really bad pain with it. My stimulator is a medtronics. I have only had to go back a couple of times to have it adjusted. They implanted the leads for the disc that was causing the most problem. Now the disc's above the bad one are starting to cause more problems then in the past. Its nothing to do with the device at all the disc were not as bad till now. I still use it but the stimulation doesn't cover those areas but it still helps out a great deal. The last time I went in for an adjustment to try and get some coverage for them but it didn't work. They upped my oxycotin dose to help with the increase in pain in those areas. The surgery I had to have it implanted was done as an out patient. I went home that day. I was to take it easy for a couple of days. The incision caused some extra pain but it wasn't that bad. It depends on your doctor as to how long you will not be able to bend, twist, or raise your arms above your head. I had to wait twelve weeks for mine, but I know some it's only 8 weeks. This if so that scar tissue can form around the leads and hold them in place. I was awake for them to place the leads and make sure they covered the right area. After they got them placed they sedated me for the rest of the procedure to draw the wires through and place the device. I had three incisions one in my back a little one on my side and one for the device on my stomach. I hope this helps you out. I hope that it works for you as it was a great blessing for me. It allowed me to regain some of my daily functions again. I am not like my old self but it allowed me to do things that I hadn't done for long time. I can now go shopping and not have to use the electric cart to get my groceries. I can fix dinner and not have to stop and rest or have my husband finish it. Although I still have those really bad pain days where nothing works like the rest of us have. If you have any questions feel free to email me. from Missouri
