Guest guest
Hi Kate, I love gerbils! All of your gerbils, fish, and kitty cat sound so sweet. I also have a sense of humor about things. I always have. I'm usually the one who makes people laugh and sometimes it is just something I was saying or how I said it lol. I also used to be very active before I became injured and then permanently " special-er " as I call myself, or living with permanent challenges. So, a sense of humor also helps me to take my mind off of things. My doctor doesn't really believe me too much about my constant chronic pain because of this humor, which I think is pretty messed up. But, there isn't anything I can do about. My husband has told my doctor at one of my appointments about everything and my doctor just kind of stared and nodded his head through most of my husband's discussion. I certainly hope that you, and everyone here, can maintain a sense of humor through life. It definately helps! Love, Becky/SD
Guest guest
Hi All, My dogs do the wrestling thing also. We have started naming the moves they use as they do in wresting. One of my dogs does the back leg clutch, he is the smaller and when he clamps on my larger dogs back leg, she cannot go anywhere and he is drug around. The larger dog does the on top belly slam and side slam. She is the alpha dog and tries to mount, so she does a top mount stopper. We were tempted to do a video and narrate it like a wrestling match. They make us smile and less pain. Bennie
Guest guest
Hi Bennie, I have the same thing happen. I will be cracking jokes, laughing, or what have you, and the nurse/nurses/doctor won't believe I am in pain until they see that my blood pressure is very high. I naturally have very low blood pressure which drops if I stand up too quickly or too long. So, when I've been to the ER for pain and my blood pressure is very high, such as what you have mentioned, they doctors and nurses realize that I'm telling the truth. I am also a nervous laugher. I laugh when nervous quite a bit, even if I'm alone lol. Love, Becky/SD >bennie@... wrote: >Until my doctors get to know me, they wonder about me laughing with my pain. I have had people question my pain level until they take my blood pressure and it is 170/100 that shows my pain level correct. I also had a neice who laughs when she is nervous. Guest guest
That's me too. My animals will stay with me till I die, in one form or another. My friend died of Alzheimer's a dew years ago. She was allowed to have her cat with her till she died. It made a world of difference both to her and to the other residents who didn't have pets but liked them around. Guest guest
Lol,Bennie sounds like our BIG chihuahua and Mickey our 4lb. yorkie. Gabby will grab Mickey's hing leg and pull him around. Before Bree(yorkie) got pregnant,Gabs and Mickey would tag team her. Mick would grab her ears, while Gabby would grab her leg. Both would pull in opposite directions, poor Bree was like a wishbone. You are definitely right, laughter does help ease the pain. Especially if the laughter pertains to our furkids. Donna Bennie wrote: My dogs do the wrestling thing also. Guest guest
I had a neurosurgeon ask me " How ARE you walking " to which I said " one foot in front of the other. How do YOU walk " ? Hey, sometimes you just have enough of docs. He chuckled and then asked " why aren't you DEAD? You SHOULD be dead " and I said " I just stick around to piss people off. How am I doing so far? " He started laughing and laughing. He looked at my sister and said " no wonder she's still kicking, she's like you, to stubborn to give up " LOL Fortunately he knew my sister from her back surgeries. He didn't hold that against me either. ;-) I think humor also tells the docs that we are NOT just looking for a fix, that we are doing the best we can and humor helps to cope. My family has ALWAYS used humor to cope with life and I am soooo glad they did too! My daughter has inherited the same humor and man, glad of that! She use to stump her toe and kinda start crying. I'd say " what's wrong, ya got nine others, why do ya think God gave ya ten to start life with " , she would then just laugh. I think kids look at you, especially when they are toddlers, to see if they should laugh or cry at things, I usually choose the laughter, it doesn't mess up your make-up either. We have two cats, Disney is a Maine Coon 16 yr old and Chuck is a Lynx Point Siamese who is my daughters. Chuck is a GIRL and is about 7 months old. We have a 15 yr old Lab. Retriever, Roxy and a 9 yr old Mini Dachshund named Petey. They make me laugh and give me so much comfort, they are all rescued from shelters and puppy mills and they are our 4 legged kids. I had a solid black German Shepherd, Dakota, that would alert me to my asthma and would also get in front of me so that I would not fall when I was walking in the yard, he ALWAYS knew just before I would fall, it was AMAZING! how he would do that. I miss him. I love this topic! Rhee in cold cold Alabama
