Guest guest
Okay folks, today I did something so royally stupid, and I'm in a bit of a panic about it. This morning, I think I took a Sonata instead of a Kadian - that wouldn't be much of an issue, except that this morning I had an appointment at my pain doc's and they did one of their surprise urine tests! When (if) they find no Kadian in my system - let alone Sonata in the middle of the day - that's a violation of my pain contract. I could lose my wonderful lifesaving pain doc, and all hope of having any pain control in the future! That would literally be the end of my life. I'm going to call the nurse first thing in the morning and explain, and hope that by telling them before they get the results they will give me a break. They do know me very well there, and I've been a model patient for three years with this doc. He's a single-doc practice and keeps it very small, so he knows all his patients intimately, and his staff of two (one nurse and one office manager) both are wonderful and know me as well. My only hope is that they are able - given today's legal climate - to give me a break! I'll over to come in on demand for more urine tests, bring my bottles in for a pill count - whatever they want to make it good. The bottles were sitting side-by-side, they're both capsules (granted, one blue and one green - maybe I can plead color blindness??), and I was in a huge hurry and half asleep at the time. I knew something was wrong with me this morning - I was driving to work after the appointment (which I'm fine to do on my opiods) but this morning I couldn't keep my mind on the road. It was really strange. I felt like my head was all stuffed with cotton. I blamed it on my allergies at the time, not knowing what else it could be. It wore off after a couple of hours, which the Sonata would have done. Plus, my pain spiked something awful about four hours past my med time, which isn't normal. I had to take a couple of breakthroughs to get through the day, which is unusual for me. When I got home from work and went to take my night meds just a little while ago, I realized that the Sonata bottle was where my Kadian bottle usually is. I don't know how many Kadian pills I had left - I've missed a couple of doses before so it's not " to the day " accurate - but I'm almost certain now that that's what happened! Geez, could I be any dumber? Keep your fingers crossed for me that there is still forgiveness for an honest mistake.
