Taking up for myself

Hey guys -- I wanted to relate something that happened to me last

night. For once, I was able to stand up for myself and turned the

tables on an aggressor. How rare that is!!!

I was driving through our neighborhood at 9:00pm last night. My

daughter's visit to a friend's turned into a spend-the-night, so I

packed a little overnight bag and was taking it to her. I turned

into a residential street and was pretty much alone. A few seconds

later, another car turned just like I had, and accelerated up to my

bumper and aggressively tailgaited me the short distance to the

first stop sign. I was so scared, that I was dialing the Constable

before I even got to the stop sign! (not a long distance!) At the

stop sign, I stopped hoping they'd back off, but the driver just

turned his wheel side-to-side....making his headlights shift back

and forth. (At that point, a man walking his dog saw us -- I was

thinking to myself " Well, maybe they won't carjack me if there's a

witness. " ....We've had a HUGE increase in violent crime in our area

since the Katrina evacuees came to Houston, and I truly thought they

were about to carjack me.)

I was hoping the car would just pass me and be gone -- plus, if they

did that, I could get the license plate #. But he didn't. I made

another turn and he followed. A few houses down, he turned off and

parked. I made the decision right then and there that I was going

to turn around and see where they stopped, because I knew a couple

of people who lived on the street.

Sure enough, he had stopped at some acquaintances of ours! They

have a teenage son, and this was one of his friends. I drove up

beside him, rolled down my window and said " What the HELL were you

doing driving that way! " .....He pulled his innocent, Eddie Haskell

act like " What are you talking about, ma'am? " (Oh, suddenly I'm

ma'am now?).

I said " Who are you -- are you the 's son? " ...I think I scared

him with that, because he said " I don't see why my name has anything

to do with this. " That did it -- I said " Well, the s are

friends of ours, they'll know who you are. " And I pulled into the

driveway.

He was protesting now -- " Ma'am!!! I'm not their son!!! There's no

need for this!!! " .....I said, marching to the door, " Well, they'll

know who you are. "

I went to the door, rang the doorbell and my friends came to the

door -- I was SHAKING LIKE A LEAF. I said " Hey , Anne..... "

and I told them the whole story. They were very supportive, and

listened to me. When I said " I almost called the Constable " ...the

wife said " Maybe you SHOULD call the Constable " . I think that

scared the punk even more.

I know they were not witnesses, and he was trying to paint me as a

crazy lady, and I let him have it right there in front of my

friends. They agreed he had no business speeding through our

neighborhood. I demanded his name again -- and with them staring at

him, he gave it to me. (His passenger was resolutely staring at the

ground -- which made their story that I was making it up a little

ridiculous.)

I thanked them for their time, and I hope he lost sleep last night

wondering if I was going to call his parents. I still could.

It was scary, but I saw it through. Maybe I can draw on that the

next time nada or fada tries to lay into me and make me ashamed.

Thanks for listening -- I just had to tell someone.

Kyla I would have been scared out of my pants if were you!

Good job for scaring that little punk. I can't stand it when people

drive that way! You showed him.

I would call his parents if you could so the punk doesn't do it

again. hmph.

THank you! After it was over, I turned around and shined my

headlights on his car and got his license and make of his car. I

can call the Constable and report it and they will go knock on the

door of the residence registered to that plate.

A Constable once told me, " Oh, they'll deny they did it, but the

point will be made. "

Especially if his parents are paying his car insurance!

Kyla,

Good for you. You took charge, but still did it in a safe manner.

I think you acted like a concerned citizen - which we don't have

enough of these days. And definitely, take the power you gained

from this experience and apply it to your nada.

Kyla,

good for you. We had a teenage girl three doors up that was notorious for

driving like a

maniac and pealing out (even in reverse) in our neighborhood. One day I was

talking to the

neighbors across the street and my very strong willed child escaped his daddy's

grasp and

was about to run across the street to me. (he was maybe three) I rushed across

the street to

stop him and within seconds the crazy teen driver came flying around the

corner. I was just

so angry and scared about what could have happened I decided that today was the

day she

was going to hear about what all of her neighbors thought of her driving. I

told her that her

driving was not acceptable to not just me but quite a few other neighbors on the

street and

that she needed to slow down. Her response was to tell me that she was nineteen

and could

do whatever the f*@k she wanted and that I could go f@<k myself. I turned

around and went

to call the sheriff. When they got there they talked to me first then two of my

neighbors that

knew why they were there chimed in. I never had a problem with her again.
