Wouldn't it be nice to play Santa Claus and have the computers just show up

at these people's homes? Just send the computer with connection directions

and directions on how to subscribe to the NF2 Crew (don't let them know it's

coming!)

Then you could send your friends secret Santa messages and you and they will

be connected after that.

I think it'd be a neat idea.

Marie,

In Canada, there is 3web.com (limited coverage). However, altavista.com,

excite.com, and even simpsons.com, have free access available. (limited to major

centers only) In Canada, Freenet, provides low-cost (text only) access. (I

remember the good old days when text based was all there was for us poor

University students ... memories, all alone in the moooon-liiiiggghhhhttttt)

Thanks, I will save that info; is it okay, if I hear from people in Canada,

that I give them your e mail address if they have problems; course come to

think of it, would good would that do, if they are having problems they

won't be getting on line!!

No one gave me the Friesen's address; if you have a fax number that would be

best. Marie

Hi Marie,

We are just stepping out for supper Marie, I'll send you this info. I'd be

interested to hearing of others in Canada and communication as well. Feel

free to give them our address. I'd love to talk with them.

I'm going to try to reach Pam and find out how they made out in Calgary last

weekend and we'd planned to call Friesen's this evening. Is there anything I

could ask them for you? Could I give them your address perhaps? I hope you

can help them out! I think susie especially would love a computer. Philip

has been deaf along time and would probably be amazed.

I met Suzie and the family twice in LA; I had my laptop with me, and

actually Philip showed more interest than Suzie did, altho she was, I am

sure, not up to par. Feel free to give my address and my greetings!

Tell --oh man I am having a senior moment--I forget the mother's name--it's

not Nellie is it??--don't tell her I forgot her name!! Gray is also

in touch with me if it is easier for them to contact her? If they get a

computer, is there anyone that can show them the basics to get them on lin

e?? Marie and if you need my snail mail address, let me know.

Marie, I can show them a bit more than the basics, but there are other factors

to consider about them going online. First, they live a helluva long ways in

northern Alberta, so none of those free ISPs I mentioned earlier would be good

for them (long distance charges). The second issue is whether or not they would

be able to find an ISP up there that is a local call. If it came to it, I could

help set them up (ie, look for a local ISP, set up connection, help them get on

the Crew, and whatnot). But again, them living in N. Alberta is a factor, since

we live so far apart.

Try www.thelist.com (I can't remember if it only lists US providers)

sharon, has some good points; anyway we can find out about internet

providers in the area where the Friesen's live?

Sure don't want them ship them a computer that they end up not able to use.

Marie, there are now some FREE internet service providers out there. My son

is using Netzero. You can check out their page at www.netzero.com

They should even have the acess numbers listed there.

Dude, First of all NetZero only works for the States. Second of all, I

mentioned several free access providers in a previous post. Unfortunately, the

closest local access numbers for all the free ISPs are Edmonton, Which is still

a very long distance call for the Friesens. But not to dispair! There may be a

local ISP that they can use (for a moderate fee, I am sure) in like Peace River,

or somewhere up there. As I said, I'll look around.

Did you see 's post about doubting that they are going to find an

access number that is not a toll free number? However wonder if they have

one of those 800 numbers like AOL does where it is not exactly free but

lower? If you just dial it up and download your messages and then go off

line to read and reply, and then reconnect to send, it's not too bad; I used

to operate that way with Prodigy when I first got on. But I'll save the

tip.'

Marie

PS I mean to order a hat and shirt, just haven't gotten to it yet!

Thanks , we in the States are not well versed in Canadian geography,

like you are in US geography! Gray had an excellent idea of states

locations, etc whereas I am a total dunce about the provinces! All I know

is Toronto on Montreal are on the East Coast, and I know where Edmonton is

because I visited . Marie
