The high number could be a " fluke " , but probably not since there is history of diabetes in your family. I've known several people to get high readings a couple of times, then the next one and every test afterwards would be fine. A person can have a high reading or a low reading once in awhile without having diabetes. Since you have purchased a meter, it would be good for you to keep a record of your readings two hours after eating, list what you eat and any exercise you may do before or after eating. You may also want to test several times a week before fasting to see what your readings are. This information will be very beneficial to your doctor. Stay in touch and let us know what the doctor tells you. Eunice
Guest guest
But , you must remember, we have a lot of members whose fasting numbers are that high or higher. Re: STILL WAITING : it was 160 which as i understand it : not the best! that's what it was last month when i had fasting blood : drawn. i wish i knew for sure, driving me nuts until i find out. : : You definately have diabetes. I don't understand why there's a question. : People without diabetes do not have fasting numbers that high. Middle ground : for non-diabetics is 85-95 or lower for fasting. This is the number Dr. : Bernstein has diabetics shoot for AFTER eating. I am pretty happy with my 106 : average, but lower would probably be better. : : Heck, I've never been as high as 160 fasting, and I am a diabetic ;-o : : : (wsm311@...) : Peace and Carrots Farm : Vermont : http://www.homestead.com/peaceandcarrots/ : http://www.heathershikinghiatus.netfirms.com/ : : To unsubscribe to this group, send an email to: diabetes-unsubscribe : Hope you come back soon! : :
Guest guest
I was diagnosed three weeks ago and just got my meter this week. It's definately worth doing. Some of my numbers are great, but others jump up after a heavy carb meal. I was told to eat 4 carb servings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and 2 as an after dinner snack. I'm having trouble doing that, and have gained .8 of a pound since Monday. By trying to do this and checking my bg, I am finding what types and amounts of carb elevate it. If nothing else, it is a learning experience. Ila East ieast@... http://mutans.astate.edu/ieast
Guest guest
i'm on the gulf side about 1/2 way between tampa & gainesville in citrus county. we get thunderstorms just about every day right now. i was actually born in the county i live in. i have a lot of weight to lose & hopefully if this happens it will help a lot of other problems. i don't want to be like my aunt & lose a leg to diabetes. i can remember watching my grandma give herself shots of insulin when i was little. btw: i tested with my meter this morning when i woke up & it read 155. ugh. terah > Good for you in being proactive and starting the testing yourself. Guest guest
Well I thought I would well into the testing with the Nerve stimulation device. But so far nothing. All I can get out of them is they will let me know when its time, and I'm sure there is people just as bad and even worse than me that should be ahead of me., So I guess its back to the library for another load of books to read
